ROSE & YELLOW GOLD "CROWN & GARTER" PIN/PENDANT 1863

AN EARLY (1863) VICTORIAN 9 CARAT ROSE and YELLOW GOLD BROOCH or PENDANT. Birmingham, fully hallmarked with the maker's mark and maker's name - C. USHER. Also with the date mark for 1863. The brooch has a ROYAL MOTIF featuring a CROWN surmounting a GARTER centered with a SHIELD, all in rose gold. The shield is on a yellow gold, decoratively engraved, background within the garter and is engraved with the initials WG. The piece may be worn either as a brooch or pendant. The brooch is backed with its original hinged steel pin. C clasp. The garter motif, of course, represents the ORDER OF THE GARTER (the English chivalric order) which goes back to the days of King Edward III and which is granted to recipients today by Queen Elizabeth II. Measures 1 1/4 inches by 1 inch. Gross weight 6 grams.
