FINE GILT BINDING. PEG WOFFINGTON. BY CHARLES READE. WITH AN INTRODUCTION by AUSTIN DOBSON AND ILLUSTRATIONS BY HUGH THOMSON. London: George Allen, 1899. 8vo. Green cloth with gilt pictorial stamping. The cover title is within a gilt wreath having a cherub on either side each supporting a mask. At the top is a cartouche framing a woman's head. A leafy border contains an all-over pattern of butterflies and stars (please see enlargement for details). There are 75 black and white illustrations by Hugh Thomson. ALL EDGES GILT. Ink inscription on half-title. A very good copy. FIRST THOMSON EDITION. SPIELMANN & JERROLD 26.
