| EDMUND DULAC. STUDY OF A RABBIT. AN ORIGINAL BRUSH AND INDIA INK DRAWING. Circa 1917. In a mat measuring 12 inches in height by 15 1/8 inches in width. Sight size is 5 inches in height by 7 1/4 inches in width. This is a preparatory sketch of Dulac's Portrait of Vivien St. George. "Vivien St. George is portrayed with her pet rabbits sketched from life in a series of brush-and-wash drawings that bear ample testimony to Dulac's ability to capture movement when he so wished" - ref. Colin White "Edmund Dulac", 1976, page 90. The drawing depicts a recumbent rabbit. There is a scarcely visible repair to the study which was done by Dulac, himself. See enlargement 3 and 4. PROVENANCE: EX COLLECTION COLIN WHITE. Accompanied by a xerox of this original with a note in White's hand about the repair: "This portion skilfully repaired (by Dulac!)". Acquired by me directly from Colin White along with other studies of rabbits; Sophie, his cat; and, a greyhound study. Colin White's inventory number - ED390 - is verso the study. NOTE: Another of the rabbit studies was included in my sale of Beatrix Potter items in 1997. See Lot 307 where the study shows the same rabbit in the same pose. | |||||||
