Winter Ferry Crossing

Original Toshikata (1866 - 1908) Japanese Woodblock Print
Original Print from his masterwork series; Thirty-six Customs of Beauties, ca. 1891 - 1894
Sanjuroku Kasen

Thirty-six Customs of Beauties - Toshikata's lovely series "Thirty-six Customs of Beauties" was one of the great masterwork series of the late 19th century. Reflecting back on the wonderful beauty prints of the late 18th and early 19th century, Toshikata created a series of 36 prints illustrating the daily activities of women from various walks of life. A geisha practicing the shamisen, a beauty in her private quarters, an entertainer crossing the river on a ferry - these lovely scenes beautifully illustrate life in Meiji era Japan. Collectors prize Toshikata's original prints from this series as attractive Meiji era prints of daily life. Great for collecting or as a wonderful display in any room.
