A male front Mandarin square, beautifully embroidered in shiny yarns on dark satin silk. Insignia with an applied crane, the bird's crest with Peking knot, denoting the first civil official rank. A Cantonese export lacquer tea caddy in a curvate shape, standing on four dragon feet. The exterior lavishly decorated with battle scenes, painted in two gold tones. Containing two engraved pewter compartments for tea with double lids and bone knob. Condition: one foot with small loss, partially lacquer painting with wear, few small chips. Dimension: 24.5 cm x 18.5 cm, 14.8 cm high, weight: 1700 g.

A Mandarin squares for a male child. A back insignia with an appliqued bird, not clearly identifiable, but pretty sure a Golden Pheasant, denoting the 2nd civil rank. Silk thread couched on dark fabric, the flowers embroidered in Peking knot. Blue silk lining. Condition: fine, minimally faded. Dimension: 22.2 cm x 23.5 cm.

A front Mandarin square dating from the second half of the 19th century. An insignia for an imperial censor, showing the white mythical beast "xiezahi" or "xiezhi" with its dragon head and single horn. Standing on a rock above deep water, the ground with auspicious emblems. Made of silk tapestry (kossu, k'o-suu) with metallic threads and painted details. Enameled open-work silver beads of different sizes in ball, double gourd and drop shape, two set with amethyst stones, plus an oval jade pendant. And from another chaozhu four glass beads imitating rose quartz, and two small beads made of bone in open-work. Condition: silver beads with enamel losses, one bruised. An original Japanese color woodblock print in the oban yoko-e size by Utagawa Hiroshige I (1797 - 1858). The print "Sunset at Nojima Island" from the very rare (as stated by Basil Stewart) series "Eight views of Kanazawa", published 1835-6 by Koshimura Heisuke. Condition: good impression.
