Ancient redware Roman oil lamp of beautiful quality. In “tondo” we find the figure of a walking ibex, surrounding this are alternating bunches of grapes and birds. Late 3rd / early 4th century. Roman North Africa. 5.22 inches. Damaged at the nozzle and handle as shown but made from a very fresh mould, large and of superb quality with nice gloss finish.

An exceptional piece of Ancient South Italian pottery. This vessel is referred to as a Thistle Mug or Thistle Cup. It sits on a high foot with a bulbous base and a beautiful flaring rim. Attached to the rim is an intact double shaped handled. Around the rim we find a band of flowers and just below the egg and dot motif. The typical Lady of Fashion adorns this vessel. Red-Figure Apulian Stamnoid Pyxis from the TPS Group. A very rare form for a pyxis, knob handle now missing from lid and has a nice red wash over the reserve area. The details of the female of fashion are done in white and yellow. The lid has a spoke patter with elongated stripes and Chevron pattern just underneath the rim. Small handles done in black and femal figures framed by the typical South Italian palmette. Stands on a small pedestal foot. Measuring 4.5 inches. Slight mineral deposits ...click for details

Ancient Apulian small red-figured kothon with a double handle in the form of a Herculean Knot. Ovoid body and a thin overhanging lip with tongue pattern in black on top and bottom of lip. Just below we find an egg and dot pattern. The body is decorated with the Lady of Fashion wearing a radiate stephane, ribbon sakkos, necklace and earrings. The skyphoid pyxis was a very popular vase type in the Greek Colony of Sicily. This absolutely RARE terracotta vessel has an ovoid body with two horizontal, loop handles and a knobbed lid. Obverse decorated with a winged figure of Eros having a drapery over his left arm. Reverse side bears draped figure holding a tambourine but is virtually gone. Large palmettes under handles, grape vine on the lid. Substantial paint loss, chip on the edge of the knob, flakes on the lid. Measures 8 1/4 inches ...click for details

Rare red-figured Globular Apulian lidded pyxis, portraying Nike. The double winged Nike is adorned with a radiate stephane and ribboned saccos , white beaded necklace and earrings. The lid is set on a tiered foot and is decorated with an olive branch (symbol of victory) thus the association with the goddess Nike. This vessel has vivid colour, with intact white and yellow pigment surrounding much of the lid. Here you find a sophisticated Apulian Kantharos decorated with a "lady of fashion" on both sides of the cup. Both females are adorned with a radiate stephane, ribbon sakkos, necklace and earrings. This Lekythos is in an exceptional state of preservation with only a small hairline stress fracture on the handle. This miniature Lekythos is well proportioned and has been flawlessly constructed.
