AN EGYPTIAN LIMESTONE FUNERARY STELE ROMAN PERIOD, CIRCA 2ND-3RD CENTURY A.D. Sculpted in sunk relief with the deceased reclining on a funeral bed within an aedicula with a triangle pediment, the figure wearing a tunic and mantle, his face turned frontal, holding a two-handled cup in his right hand and a bolt of cloth in his left. Comes with a custom made stand! Measures 13 inches (33cm) high. Provenance: Collected by Gustave Jéquier (1868-1946) Exhibited at Christies Auction House, USA, 2007 Ex. William "Billy" Jamieson (1954-2011) Authentication: Gayle Gibson of the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto. A very similar example can be found in the Hood Museum of Art. Their piece reportedly came from Kom Abou, Billou, Egypt, which was the site of a University of Michigan excavation in 1935.
