Paul Jacoulet, La Perruche Morte. Celebes
This extremely popular print is an example of a concept that now seems more important as a black and white key block print, with its expert, Matisse like line. The colors lessen the impact of the sorrow of the island maiden with her dead pet parakeet, and the accusation of excessive emotionalism is hard to contradict.

Paul Jacoulet, This very simple but striking portrait of two young hunters in the Celebes is very scarce, but because of the pigments used is more often found in unfaded condition. As a double portrait of young men, it ranks with Les Enfents aux Yeux Jaunes (No.71). Credit: Richard Miles, "THE PRINTS OF PAUL JACOULET".
There were fewer than 60 impressions produced, very few in any condition left, but miraculously, this print has survived in (100 percent) perfect condition.

Paul Jacoulet,The Replacement, Miles (No. 142)
The model, a Chinese girl who was living in Seoul, recently lost a baby. Her pet rabbit was a poor substitute, but it gave Jacoulet and idea for an image that has grown steadily more popular since his death. The young lady also was the inspiration for Les Jades (No. 63),the original painting which was done during the same period as Le Replacement. There is no evidence that Jacoulet completed any paintings in the last five years of his life, so en ...click for details

Paul Jacoulet, Sur Le Sable. This very simple print is also influenced by Jacoulet's earlyer trips to Paris, where he admired the reclining nudes of Matisse. It is interesting to compare this treatment of the same model as Fleurs Violettes (No.41), this time in a Western perspective that uses negative spaces with increasing skill. Paul Jacoulet, Miles No. 141. Once again delighted in a still life in front of a dominant figure, Jacoulet offered his subscribers the first work based on his recent trip around the world. Hong Kong fascinated him, and its foods delighted him. This well fed musician with his plump but skillful hands was Jacoulet's idea of a happy man. The Prints of Paul Jacoulet by Richard Miles.
