More than 300 individual impressions of nearly sixty blocks, carved on both sides, were needed to create this ultimate technical tour de force of twentieth century art.
A companion to Le Mandarin aux Lunettes (No. 106), it was as though Jacoulet wished to display his technique by printing the silver threads on the gossamer cloth in front of his figure, rather then as a flat design on the background. Published in June, 1955. The winter flowers of the island of Oshima are camellias, from which is extracted a famous oil popular as a haridressing. This print would seem to have been inteded as the right half of a pair, but since "Graines de Camellia" all too obviously features the same three girls, it is unlikely that a pair was ever completed. Fair condition, the back of the paper is toned. The colors of the image are bright, some tape residue.
