This handled American coin silver cup was made by William K. Vanderslice in San Francisco, CA, circa 1870, consisting of a simple tapered cylindrical form with rope banding around rim and base. Vanderslice was an early California silversmith, working in the mid 19th century. He became widely acclaimed for his fine silverwork. A fine turn of the century Arita serving bowl and cover, the bowl with molded and reticulated border of interlocking rings, wachigai, forming a band of auspicious “shippo”, the interior decorated in blue, orange and beige fish and lilies, auspicious symbols of longevity and good fortune. The underside marked with a lucky symbol. The bowl is in good condition, having some flaking on the perforated cover. No restoration or chips. The dish measures 12" diameter x 2 3/4" high.
