Sold; thank you!

Despite making a specialty of Belais jewelry for several years, I've previously seen their famous white gold appear with yellow gold in only four instances (two of which we were privileged to sell). Here the Belais 14k tops are set in gilded frames for a look of remarkable opulence. Move over, Diamond Jim! Too, on the practical level, the mixture of metals means you can wear these beautifully with rings and watches of either color.

Also unusual is the motif engraved on each of the cufflinks' four slightly concave oval faces. Most Belais cufflinks are obviously Art Deco, but these are earlier, detailed with a refined delicacy that's thoroughly Edwardian. Also indicating great age are the connectors, which have a fancy scrolling shape typical of Art Nouveau, a Victorian style that persisted into Edwardian times.

These cufflinks, I believe, date from early in the Edwardian era -- circa 1905. That was the year when the HWK Company was formed in Providence, RI, a major jewelry center then. HWK held the Talon Grip trademark and the reverses here are signed HWK and TALON GRIP, as well as BELAIS 14K WHITE GOLD FRONT. Size is about 3/4 of an inch by 1/2 inch, provenance is a Missouri estate and condition is very nice. The faces of these are in lovely shape but, due to more surface wear than usual to the backs and connectors, we've priced them substantially lower than other two-toned Belais cufflinks. It may well be possible to brighten those areas with a little polishing, but in any case they'd never be seen when worn.

With fashion's return to the elegance of French cuffs, antique cufflinks are flying off our shelves as fast as we can find them, particularly those by Belais. When you possess a piece bearing that legendary name, quite simply you own the best of the best, because the Belais Brothers were the *gods* of white gold jewelry in the early 20th century (circa 1900-1930) until the Great Depression caused the company's closure by destroying the market for luxury goods. If these appeal to, you'd better not delay.

Despite making a specialty of Belais jewelry for several years, I've seen their famous white gold appear along with yellow gold in only three instances (one other of which we were privileged to sell). Here the Belais 14k tops are set in richly gilded frames and the look is wonderfully opulent. Move over, Diamond Jim! Too, on the practical level, the mixture of metals means you can wear these beautifully with rings and watches of either color.

Also unusual is the motif engraved on each of the cufflinks' four octagonal faces. Most Belais cufflinks are obviously Art Deco, but these are earlier, showing strong Arts and Crafts influence in the Celtic manner. Against a spiral background, a stylized cross forms the central element.

HWK held the Talon Grip trademark and the reverses here are signed TALON GRIP, as well as BELAIS 14K WHITE GOLD FRONT. Size is 5/8 of an inch in each direction, provenance is a Louisiana estate and condition is lovely, showing only minor wear under high magnification.

With fashion's return to the elegance of French cuffs, antique cufflinks are flying off our shelves as fast as we can find them, particularly those by Belais. When you possess a piece bearing that legendary name, quite simply you own the best of the best, because the Belais Brothers were the *gods* of white gold jewelry in the early 20th century (circa 1900-1930). Onset of the Great Depression caused the New York company's closure by destroying the market for luxury goods. We're fortunate now to have several Belais items in stock, including a fine wedding band, a spectacular jeweled wristwatch and several exquisite jeweled filigree rings - but just one other pair of cufflinks besides these rarities. If you like them, you'd better not delay.

From the Late Victorian era, these spectacular antique Art Nouveau cufflinks feature an undulant floral design in repoussé work still crisp after more than a hundred years. They measure about 3/4" by 9/16", have a smooth satin finish and are gold-filled. Gold-filled jewels being far more durable than gold-plated, these amazing cufflinks show no signs of surface wear. The only flaw we can find is a small dimple on one of the backs, which are of the early "bean" type, a sure indication of great age. The dimple wouldn't be seen in use, of course. Obviously, they can be worn beautifully by either a man or a woman.

Sold; thank you!

These antique double-sided cufflinks from a Michigan estate would look equally elegant on a man or a woman. Shaped as octagons measuring 5/8" in each direction, they feature layers and layers of gorgeous engraving, elaborate zigzag edges and central plaques to monogram, if you choose.

All details are as clear and crisp as on the day these were made. I expect that day was no later than in 1905, based on the type of connectors used and the styling. Most Belais cufflinks found today are Art Deco, but these are certainly a Late Victorian or Edwardian type. Notice that the fasteners are double stirrups, rarely seen after the 19th century.

Each of the links is signed 14K Belais White Gold Front, along with the P.S.M. Co. stamp. As you may know, the Belais brothers were the *gods* of white gold jewelry in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. When you possess a piece marked 'Belais,' quite simply you own the best of the best. We're fortunate now to have a good many Belais items in stock, including wedding bands, gem-set filigree rings and a spectacular wristwatch with sapphires - but only two other pair of cufflinks at this writing. With fashion's return to the elegance of French cuffs, antique cufflinks are flying off our shelves as fast as we can get them, especially this superlative brand. If you like these, you'd better not delay.

Even if you already have a pair of wonderful antique white gold cufflinks by the legendary Belais Brothers, you may need these, too. Most Belais jewels are Art Deco, but these are earlier examples showing Arts and Crafts influence in the Celtic manner. On each shield-shaped face, the zigzag symbolizing a thunderbolt or lightning flash streaks boldly through the center while, at top and bottom, engraved lines weave together into intricate knotwork, interrupted in the lower section to provide a monogram plaque -- still awaiting your initials.

This remarkable design repeats four times, as usual, since Belais links are double-ended. Each face is framed by an elaborate edge and even the connectors are ornately formed, with scrolling floral shapes that give more than a nod to Victorian Art Nouveau.

In such lovely condition that they can't have been worn much, they display every detail as clearly as on the day they were made. That day was most likely between 1910 and 1919, an important transitional period during which Edwardian design was evolving toward Art Deco. Their reverses are stamped "White Gold Front Belais 14K" and "Talon Grip." Measuring 5/8 of an inch by 1/2 inch, they reached us from a Midwestern estate.

Did your heart just skip a beat? Mine did, when I first saw these cufflinks. Despite making a specialty of Belais jewelry for several years, I've never before seen their famous white gold appear along with yellow gold. These have richly gilded frames, as well as reverses, and the look is wonderfully opulent. Move over, Diamond Jim! Too, on the practical level, the mixture of metals means you can wear these beautifully with rings and watches of either color.

Equally remarkable is the modernistic motif engraved on each of the cufflinks' four faces. It captures the spirit of Frank Lloyd Wright's Arts and Crafts stained glass, which the New York City-based Belais Brothers could easily have seen at two Edwardian homes Wright designed in Buffalo. Actually, Wright's career was well underway while Queen Victoria was still on the throne, so I feel confident in dating these links no later than the World War I era, based on the elaborate, early type of connectors used.

To make things even better, the condition of these exciting cufflinks is virtually like new. They can't have been worn much, if at all. Easily legible halllmarks read BELAIS 14K WHITE GOLD FRONT, TALON GRIP and HWK Co. Each face, an elongated oval, measures 11/16 inch by 1/2 inch and the provenance of these marvels is a Midwestern estate.

Even if you already have a pair of wonderful antique white gold cufflinks by the legendary Belais Brothers, you may need these, too. They're decidedly Edwardian in spirit, wheras most Belais jewels are Art Deco, and they're in such immaculate condition I doubt they were ever worn. The design repeats four times, as usual, since Belais links are double-ended. Each slightly domed face is an elongated oval featuring an elaborate edge around a pin-striped central element with a star-like flower in the middle that glitters as if there were a gypsy-set stone. Even the connectors are ornately formed, with scrolling floral shapes that give more than a nod to Victorian Art Nouveau.

All details of these cufflinks are as clear and crisp as on the day they were made. That day was most likely between 1910 and 1919, an important transitional period before Art Deco styling became dominant. You'd have to look a long time to find another pair of antique cufflinks this old and in such lovely condition. Their reverses are stamped “White Gold Front Belais 14K” and “HWK Co.” on one link and “Talon Grip Trade Mark” on the other. Measuring 3/4 of an inch by 1/2 inch, they weigh 5.6 grams. Provenance is a Pennsylvania estate.

Even if you already have a pair of wonderful antique white gold cufflinks by the legendary Belais Brothers, you may need these, too. Their design motif is one of the most elaborate I've ever seen from this company. It repeats four times, since the links are double-ended. Each of the domed faces - patterned like snowflakes and 5/8" round - bears on its reverse the "Belais 14K White Gold Front" mark and a "Talon Grip" stamp. Even the connectors are ornately formed, and all details are as clear and crisp as on the day these were made. That day was most likely between 1910 and 1920, since Victorian and Edwardian influences are evident. This was an important transitional period before geometrical Art Deco styling became dominant. You'd have to look a long time to find another pair of antique cufflinks this stunning and in such lovely condition. Their provenance is a Midwestern estate.

Antique Art Deco French Floral Crystal Buckle Set

Sold; thank you! $95 SALE
(Reduced from $125)

This exquisite two-part buckle of frosty French crystal is in incredible condition, with its floral overlay of sparkling silver metal as bright as on the day it was made. Probable dating would be mid-1920s, when jewelry designers went crazy for crystal, so it's antique, not merely vintage. In fact, fashion editors worldwide dubbed 1927 "The Year of Crystal."

Despite great age, it's been very seldom worn, if ever. Since I acquired it about a dozen years ago from an Art Nouveau/Art Deco specialist at a major antiques fair in Cambridgeshire, I haven't worn it, either. It's time someone owned it who'll wear it at last!

This is a large buckle, about 3 inches wide when closed, because each banner-shaped segment is 1 1/2" square. The glass will of course take on the color of whatever belt or sash you'd like to dress up. The only flaws I can find wouldn't be noticed in use - just tiny losses of the rhodium or chromium plating and one very slightly misshapen loop, more likely the result of storage than wear.

These antique double-sided cufflinks from a Midwestern estate are gorgeously engraved in an elaborate and unusual design I've never seen before. Measuring approximately 5/8" in each dimension, they're shaped as octagons. The edges are beaded and the centers have small rondels that can be engraved, if you like. All details are as clear and crisp as on the day these were made. I expect that day was in 1920 or even earlier, based on the type of connectors used and the styling, which is more Edwardian in spirit than Art Deco. Condition is truly remarkable, showing only light surface wear under extreme magnification.

Each of the links is signed 14K White Gold Front and bears the legendary name BELAIS. As you may know, the Belais brothers were the *gods* of white gold jewelry in the early 20th century. When you possess a piece marked 'Belais,' quite simply you own the best of the best. We're fortunate now to have a good many Belais items in stock, including wedding bands in a nice range of sizes, a spectacular wristwatch with sapphires, a filigree brooch, several exquisite rings in filigree and a choice array of cufflinks dating from Late Victorian, Edwardian, transitional and Art Deco times.
