Genuine antique jewels with the dragonfly motif are so coveted that they're very hard to get now, as you probably know if you collect Art Nouveau and Art Deco jewelry. Making this dragonfly ring even more rare and collectible, it's by the legendary Belais Brothers - makers of the finest white gold filigree in the early 20th century.
Stamped 14k BELAIS, it has an intricately worked basket setting, its sides formed by the exquisitely textured bodies and outspread wings of two large dragonflies. The mounting holds two fancy-cut tablets of highly polished black onyx arranged to look like one elongated stone and set with a small accent diamond framed in white gold. Measuring 3/4" long, 3/8" wide and 3/16" high, this is a dramatic jewel that can't possibly be overlooked. Current size is about a U.S. 6, easily altered since the back of the shank isn't ornamented.
The condition of the filigree is wonderfully crisp and, of course, the bulk of the ring's value resides in its masterful goldwork. Visible only on the underside, there's evidence of an old repair where the onyx stones join. I considered having the onyx replaced, but thought the next owner might prefer to add more colorful gems, instead. Aquamarine, citrine or garnet would be incredibly lovely. The one small flaw was reflected in our original price, which would have been considerably higher if everything were perfect.
At the present sale price, this treasure is a steal. You'll want it insured for $1,000 or more -- a great deal more, if the price of gold keeps rising.

If you love antique white gold jewelry, you probably know the signature BELAIS on a piece means it's the ultimate. For beautiful design and refined craftsmanship, the Belais Brothers surpassed all others working in white gold during the early 20th century. This lovely wedding ring from a Midwestern estate is an excellent example of why their jewelry was so esteemed. The band's intricate pattern, executed in high relief, is a stylized Art Deco foliate motif like interlocking leaves, interspersed with geometric panels. Probable dating is circa 1920-1925. Interior is marked BELAIS 18K.
In very nice condition, showing no more than age-appropriate wear, the ring is about a US 5 1/4. (I always say "about" because different types of measuring equipment vary somewhat, as does the size of our fingers with season and time of day.) If your finger measures anywhere between 5 and 5.5, this should fit. Any of our Belais bands, BTW, could easily be modifed to become an engagement ring with the addition of prongs and whatever stone you like. I don't normally recommend adapting antique jewelry, but just saw online an alleged "Belais Solitaire" that certainly didn't begin life that way; it has a honking big modern diamond in long prongs and a pricetag of $9250 (gasp). Little delicate prongs and a diamond in proper scale could actually be very pretty, though.

This would make a fabulous necklace chain for your favorite antique pendant, if you'd rather use it that way.
This very fine antique watch chain is quite rare, being of white gold. As you know, most other examples are of yellow gold or mixed colors. The elegant openwork design is also unusual. Obviously this pierced geometric pattern *screams* Art Deco and also shows Arts & Crafts influence, so probable dating would be circa 1920-25. Provenance is a California estate. Requisite fittings are present, in good working order, and 14K can be read on both the clasp and the swivel. Present length is 14 1/2 inches, long enough to wear as a choker. You could easily add extra small round links at the back to attain any necklace length desired.

Even if you already have a pair of wonderful white gold cufflinks by the legendary Belais Brothers, you may need these, too. Their design motif is one of the most remarkable I've ever seen from this company - certainly quite early, since symbols of luck like these 4-leafed clovers were popular in Late Victorian and Edwardian times (whereas purely geometric patterns were favored in the Art Deco 1920s and 1930s). The lucky clover repeats four times, since the links are double-ended, and all details are as clear and crisp as on the day these were made. I expect that day was before 1920 - during the transitional years between the Edwardian and Deco periods - based both on the style and type of connectors used, which are more Edwardian than Deco. (One side swivels, while the other remains fixed.)
You'd have to look a long time to find another pair of antique Belais cufflinks of this style and in such lovely condition. Each of the four octagonal heads bears the "Belais 14K White Gold Front" stamp and measures about 5/8" in each dimension. Their provenance is a New Jersey estate.
With fashion's return to the elegance of French cuffs, antique cufflinks are flying off our shelves as fast as we can find them, particularly those by Belais. When you possess a piece marked 'Belais,' quite simply you own the best of the best, because the Belais brothers were the *gods* of white gold jewelry in the early 20th century (circa 1900-1930). Onset of the Great Depression caused the company's closure by destroying the market for luxury goods.

Designed to be complementary rather than identical, these dramatic antique brooches from a Florida estate are crafted of 10k gold (unmarked but tested) and set with 6 sparkling emerald crystals. They're whoppers, each brooch measuring about 4 inches tall, but nicely lightweight so perfectly safe to wear on your delicate fabrics. I feel confident they're hand-crafted.
Condition, as you see, is lovely - showing only minor evidence of wear on close inspection. Probable dating would be circa 1930, although they have the wonderful old "C" clasp that normally suggests Victorian origin.
Price is for the pair - a fabulous deal for two of the most spectacular, high-quality antique pins you'll see anywhere!

These antique double-sided cufflinks from an Indiana estate are intricately engraved with a *very* Art Deco design. Although dating from the 1920s, they're in gorgeous condition. Clearly, they've seen very little wear. Of octagonal shape, each link is signed 14K Gold Front and bears the legendary name BELAIS. When you possess a piece marked 'Belais,' quite simply you own the best of the best, because the Belais brothers were the *gods* of white gold jewelry in the early 20th century (circa 1900-1930). This is one of their later designs, being pure Art Deco.
We're fortunate now to have a good many Belais items in stock, including their fine wedding bands in a nice range of sizes, a spectacular wristwatch with sapphires, several exquiste filigree rings, a delightful brooch and a few other sets of cufflinks that would be superb for bridegrooms or as heirloom-quality gifts. To see all these items, please search our catalog (using the term, Belais) or e-mail for photos and details.

This elegant Belais cuff link set from a Florida estate is gorgeously engraved in a pattern rather like little sunbursts. Each is made of two links marked 14Kt gold front Belais and also struck with the Talon Grip trademark. One side remains stationary, while the other turns.
Condition is lovely, with only slight wear. We've left them in as-found condition, since so many collectors are purists about the patina of age, but a quick dip in good jewelry cleaner would have them shining like new.

This gorgeous Belais set from an East Coast estate is oh-so-Deco, obviously dating from the 1920s. Gorgeously engraved, each is made of two hexagonal links measuring 1/2" wide and marked on reverse 14K Belais White Gold Front.
Condition is lovely, with no flaws except a small area of discoloration on the back of one link, which wouldn't show when worn and will probably polish out. We've left them in as-found condition, since so many collectors are purists about the patina of age, but a quick dip in good jewelry cleaner would have them shining like new.

This lovely wedding ring from an East Coast estate is an excellent example of why their jewelry was so esteemed.
