This gorgeous, highly dimensional vintage sterling silver bracelet is one of Stuart Nye's most admired designs. The matching double calla lily brooch is a book piece featured in Schon's "Modernist Jewelry 1930-1960." The bracelet is hand-crafted, as all pieces from the Nye studio have been since its establishment in 1933. The "arts and crafts" era was ending elsewhere, but didn't at Nye. Instead, it combined with the bold forms of Modernism and both influences are clearly present here.

Small but meaningful distinctions exist between this early calla bracelet and its successors, some still in production. This one also bears the distinctive "NYE" signature within a stylized shamrock and two "Sterling" stamps. Time's patina was so heavy that, with apologies to the purists among us, I polished the front to reveal its lovely details. The reverse remains dark. Slight age-appropriate wear is visible under magnification, but overall condition is simply marvelous, relative to age and the delicacy of sterling. It's been lovingly cared for, as it deserves. This is the large form of the bracelet, its central element being 1 3/4" tall and 2 1/2" wide. Provenance is a Midwestern estate.

A true investment-grade jewel, this wonderfully elegant necklace was made and marked by the distinguished European silversmith A Siebel, Senior, whose work in Holland in the mid-20th century is very well-documented. It's crafted in two parts, so the onyx-set drop suspended from the choker moves freely, adding lots of liveliness.

The choker is 15.35" long, and the drop measures an impressive 4.33" long x 1.58" wide. Hallmarks include the Dutch Government guarantee mark for sterling and condition, as you see, is superb.

Here's a truly exciting piece of mid-20th century history: a heavy (4.9 gram) sterling silver " V for Victory" ring that can be worn beautifully by a man or a woman. The design is very powerful - chiseled and with openwork - and the ring is stamped 925 for sterling.

Condition is excellent, provenance is a Midwestern estate and present size is US 7 to 7 1/2, easily altered since the back of the shank isn't ornamented. (NOTE: We state ring sizes as a range, since they can vary up to a half a size, depending on whether the sizing equipment used is wood, metal or plastic. Also, our fingers vary that much with temperature and time of day.)

Dating from the interface of Arts & Crafts with Modernism (circa 1930 - 1950), this stunning handmade sterling ring from a European collection would look equally appropriate on a man or a woman. It's a whopper, for sure. The royal purple stone, a huge faceted oval bezel-set and open at the back, measures nearly 3/4" tall! It was sold as a natural amethyst and looks like one to me but, not being a gemologist, I can't absolutely guarantee it. Currently about a U.S. size 8 - 9 (easily altered by your jeweler), the ring is in very nice vintage condition. Surface wear is evident under a high-powered loupe, but not to the naked eye. The 925 hallmark appears inside the shank.
