The gracefully stylized heart form of this lovely stick pin, with its slight assymetry, dates it firmly to the Art Nouveau era -- and it's certain to be a Victorian jewel, since it isn't marked but tests as 10k gold. (Hallmarks weren't mandated in the U.S. until the Edwardian era.)

The almandine-shaped stone of rich purple is gorgeously faceted and appears to be genuine amethyst. After a century, glass would be badly abraded, whereas the gem shows hardly any wear, even under high magnification. As the stone's setting is open at the back, we know the color is natural, without foil enhancement.

Length of the pin is 2 1/4 inches and the heart measures about 5/8 inch by half an inch. Condition, as you see, is lovely in every way. Even the stock shows no waviness, which is quite rare. Provenance of this treasure is a Midwestern estate.

Stickpins are perfect with fashion's classic mood today, and they make fabulous gifts for both men and women.

This enchanting Celtic Art Nouveau brooch is an extraordinary find from one of our best sources in the British Isles. The figure in the foreground is a leprechaun, elf or any other sort of magical little "fairy down the garden". Exquisitely detailed, he's applied atop a repoussé toadstool, overlooking a green loch and golden hills with pretty engraving, beneath a blue sky accented by puffy white clouds.

The enamelwork on this jewel is gorgeous and in lovely condition. So, too, is the rose gold gilding, which shows only minor losses on the pin. The front is slightly concave and the domed back is beautifully surfaced, either hammered or cast in a dimpled pattern and fitted with the tube hinge and open C clasp indicative of great age. Its pinstem was snipped at some point, not a bad idea since the elongated ones of the 19th century could so easily draw blood. The jewel measures about 1 1/4 inches round with scalloped and beaded edges. It dates most likely from the 1890s, but could be a little earlier or later. Wouldn't it make a fabulous St. Patrick's Day present?

When the 19th century fashionista who first owned these earrings strode into her favorite haunt -- perhaps the Cafe Royale -- how her friends must have gasped with envy! Everything about them was the latest and greatest in the 1890s: the whiplash curves framing the cabochon sets, their vivid dappled green jade color and the rosy metal finish.

Because they've survived more than a century so gorgeously, you can make the same stir. Both cabochon stones -- no doubt the finest Bohemian art glass -- are pristine and it takes magnification to observe light surface wear to the rose gilt, mainly on the reverses. The earrings drop approximately 1 1/4 inches below the ear and are 3/4 of an inch wide at their bases. Provenance is a Florida estate. You don't need to be told what a rare find these are, if you collect antique earrings.

These enchanting earrings evidence the very fine workmanship characteristic of high-quality Italian mosaic jewelry from the Late Victorian and Edwardian era (circa 1900-1910). The individual pieces of glass mosaic (tesserae) are typically smaller, the older a piece is - and these are *quite* small - not as miniscule as those from the 19th century, but far smaller than we see on more modern examples.

The graceful filigree volutes that frame the exquisite mosaic compositions show strong Art Nouveau influence and appear to be of gold on brass. This filigree work is quite shiny and fresh, beautifully preserved. Even the earring backs show little wear to the finish. Each earring measures a tad under 1" across and is marked ITALY on reverse. They reached us from an East Coast estate, but were no doubt acquired in Rome as Grand Tour souvenirs about a hundred years ago.

With gorgeous scrolled etching on each side of its round bezel-set citrine stone, this elegant antique jewel is marked 10k on its pinstem and also signed "C" within a diamond-shaped mark on its catch. An excellent early safety clasp is present and appears original, which dates the jewel toward the end of the bar brooch era - Late Victorian or Edwardian (circa 1895-1910). Pictures really don't do justice to this treasure, which is in superb condition and measures 2 ¼" X ¼". Its price represents an extraordinary value. Elsewhere online, a seller is asking more than $150 for a 10k pin of the same size, set with only a rhinestone.

What an impressive gift this would be for someone you treasure, and we'll gladly gift wrap and ship free to any U.S. address. Please e-mail to confirm availability, order or request more photos. Thanks for looking!
