Five strands of graduated length comprise one of these spectacular vintage necklaces. It mixes vivid beads and brass chains with both bright and antiqued golden finishes and all that treasure is suspended from a classy fastening system featuring two ornately detailed medallions linked by yet more chain, which allows the total length to be adjusted by about 3 inches. The longest chain measures 31.5 inches, so the necklace falls more than halfway down the chest. The beads, which look like art glass, are actually of hard plastic. Some are semi-transparent, containing bits of glitter, while other have a frosty opaque look. Colors include carnelian, jade, cranberry, gray and gold. The larger links are patterned on one side with little triangles that add extra sparkle. Condition of the jewel is lovely, showing age-appropriate surface wear mainly on the medallions and only under high magnification.
The second is single strand, but what a strand: about 37 inches of faux amber, onyx, gold and pearls. The gold beads appear to be metal and the others are glass, except for the ambers -- which on close examination prove to be globes of glitter-filled lucite. Only light surface wear is present here, too.
Both necklaces date from the 1950s and reached us from a Texas estate. Please e-mail to confirm availability, order or request more photos. Thanks for looking!

Very briefly in the early 20th century, the Pueblo Deco style appeared as a fusion of Native American artwork with Art Deco design. Its legacy is largely architectural, including such cultural treasures as Albuquerque's KiMo Theatre. Antique jewels from the era are rare and highly collectible.
A wonderful example is this antique necklace from the 1920s, which has Flapper Girl tassels and also evokes the Egyptian Revival style popular at the time. It's a thick, supple rope of red and white glass beads strung in a spiral pattern, undoubtedly handcrafted by a Native American artisan in New Mexico. After being collected by a visitor to 'The Land of Enchantment' during the first years when the Santa Fe Railroad and enterprising hoteliers began courting tourists, it lay in a bank vault for 80+ years - and emerged like new, to our good fortune. Almost 30 inches long including fringe, the necklace is exceedingly well-made and versatile. Its beaded slide allows you to adjust the strand for wear as a choker or even a headband.
Please e-mail for additional photos showing greater detail. BTW, we also have two other beaded necklaces from the same era and estate, both in mint condition - one matching the style of this, but in green and white and another that's of bib style and museum quality. If you're interested in one or both of those, too, we can work out special pricing. Thanks for looking!

Here's a versatile vintage necklace that will look stunning with everything from jeans to silk dresses. In a color palette that screams Art Deco, it's entirely made of glowing semi-precious stones - including marquis-cut rose quartz, aventurine and banded agate. It finishes with a gorgeous rose quartz lavaliere teardrop 1 1/4" long.
This jewel was crafted to last and its condition, as you see, is excellent. Only light surface wear is visible, even under extreme magnification. Total length is approximately 26" and provenance is a Deep South estate. Probable dating would be 1930s, given the blend of Deco and Modernist style influences. BTW, similar mixed-stone necklaces composed merely of round beads are being offered elsewhere online for $195 and more, so ours with larger and more interestingly shaped stones is a terrific bargain - especially on sale.

Spezzati or branch coral, so beloved by the Victorians and Edwardians, is making fashion news again. Did you notice how many top designers' models wore branch coral necklaces in the recent runway shows? This is a particularly lush example of the form, beautifully vivid and bristling with branches.
To achieve this dramatic length, we actually had two shorter 19th century estate strands combined - retaining this wonderful old barrel clasp in beehive shape, although there's no need to open it. You'd have to look a long time for a spezzati necklace as spectacular as this one! This is good old Mediterranean stuff, harvested off Italy in the 19th century and earlier. Most newer coral is dyed.
UPDATE: We recently added a bracelet that's a great match for the necklace. (To see it, just enter branch coral in the search box.) If interested in both pieces, let us know and we can work out special pricing.
There's no charge for insured U.S. delivery and beautiful gift-wrap is always available on request. Please e-mail to confirm availability, order or request more photos. Thanks for looking!

With blush pink among fashion's favorite colors, rose quartz is showing up in all the best places. At Neiman Marcus, I noticed a necklace made of just about this many beads. Its pricetag was $550! This ultra-long, heavyweight beauty can be yours for a great deal less, and it's obviously hand-crafted, composed entirely of large and luscious pink gemstones in baroque shapes. They're wrapped in abstract Modernist waves of wirework (perhaps sterling, but more likely silver metal of a sturdier grade).
Because it measures a flapper-worthy four feet long, the necklace needs no clasp. For this season's trendy split-level look, wrap it first around your neck as a choker, then let the rest swing free. This is a *lot* of great necklace. Condition, as you see, is superb and probable dating would be circa 1940 (at the confluence of Art Deco and Modernism). Provenance is a European collection.

Flapper beads are huge in fashion news now and so is blue, so you'll get lots of use from this sensational strand. It measures a whopping 56" in length - almost five feet - and features the most beautiful royal blue and clear art glass beads strung between 1/2" white enameled metal links. It's signed MRWE on a gold-colored metal tag shaped rather like a question mark. Workmanship is exceptional and condition, as you see, is fabulous.
