This endearing little angel carries a lantern and a trumpet and is in pristine condition, never having been damaged or repaired. The item was given to me when new and, in the last 16 years, has been displayed just a few times at Christmas. With no signs of age except small wear marks on the unpolished edges of the base, the angel stands about 3 3/4" tall and measures about 1 7/8" at her widest. A sticker near the bottom of her robe reads Hosanna Hosianna and the name M. D.(or maybe O) Hummel is incised near that, running vertically under the glaze. Her base marks are Goebel West Germany in blue (preceded by the copyright symbol) Rt 89 in black script, and incised in the white china L (?) 480 and 1987.
I knew little about Hummel Goebel figures, so did some research and determined this is from the so-called "missing bee" period. A brand NEW figure looking just like this but called simply "Hosanna" is offered online at $135. Based on that, our price is highly favorable for a vintage version. There can't have been a lot of these made between their introduction in 1987 and the reunification of Germany, so it should continue to gain value as a rarity.
