Most likely from the 1950s or early 1960s, this fluffy white chapeau is in pristine condition. Even its lining is beautiful, made of luxurious black fabric that's ridged like grosgrain ribbon.

Size is on the small side. I can get it on, but not down as far as it really should go. My forehead is 22.5 inches around and the maximum it would fit properly is about 21.5 inches. Assuming the fit is right for your purposes, this is a marvelous bargain.

Although many of us wouldn't buy new furs now, to avoid encouraging the trade, making use of vintage furs strikes me as both ethical and sensible. If you agree, please run a search for "fur" and see the two pretty collars we have in stock, also at great prices.

A great vintage holiday decor item, or skate in them this winter!

Although scarcely worn (if at all), these professional quality skates are probably around 50-60 years old -- but at least 35 years old, since they're marked "Empire Pool and Sports Arena". This ties them to a London sports facility that's been known simply as Wembley Arena since the mid-1970s. It opened in 1924, as part of a vast complex hosting the British Empire Exhibition, so the skates could conceivably date from the Art Deco period and be antique, rather than just vintage. I'm no authority on figure skating equipment, but these don't resemble any skates I've ever worn; for instance, the tongues are lined with fluffy sheepskin (not the usual foam); the tops are straight across and exceptionally tall; and they're brown, despite being small enough to fit a lady (whereas ladies' skating boots have typically been white since that color was popularized by Sonja Henie in the 1930s). Perhaps they were made for a boy, but they seem too narrow for a child's foot. I'd judge the size of the skates to be about a US 5 1/2 or 6.

Regardless of their precise age, everything about the skates says high quality. Gold-stamped in the heel area along with the "Empire Pool" address is the name "M. Riordan" (presumably a skate maker or skater based there). The top of each boot's interior is also marked "Embekay for Figure Skating" - then 3241 4 S 110. The blades, marked Sheffield and Pinnacle, are protected by what appear to be hand-stitched blade covers. A lengthy search online has turned up nothing on M. Riordan or Embekay - so, if you happen to know about either or can date these reliably by some other means, please send me an e-mail.

These could certainly be useful on an ice rink, being in such incredible condition. They'd also be gorgeous elements of holiday decor, perhaps hung from ribbons on a door or nestled at hearthside amid greenery.

Provenance is an antiques shop near Newmarket in East Anglia.

Peplums, ruching and strong shoulders are having another big moment now! If you crave that vintage 1980s look, why not wear the real thing, rather than a new-yesterday knockoff? You'll find this "Dynasty" era dazzler is perfect whenever you need a party dress of cocktail length. Vividly scarlet, it has an elegantly draped peplum overskirt and a ruched front bodice ornamented with a transparent Art Nouveau butterfly that's loaded with white pearls, red sequins and bugle beads. Ruffles supported by an underlay of red petticoat net appear both fore and after and the skirt is slit, so you can walk and dance easily. The low-cut back closes with a short zipper. Length is just below the knee.

The prior owner bought this gorgeous gown in 1985 and wore it only a few times, so condition is quite good. Its label identifies it as a California-made creation "For David Howard" from the "Climax" line by Karen Okada. The acetate fabric feels like satin taffeta: rich and slightly crispy. It looks like it would fit sizes 2 through 6. The only point of close fit is the waistline, which measures 26 inches.

Here's a truly luxurious vintage case for your favorite specs or shades! The rich red hues and intricate gilding give it a lavish High Renaissance look.

This exquisite case measures 7.25 inches by 3.5 inches, so can hold large frames. From a New Mexico collector who's downsizing, it received little use, being one of several she acquired in Italy about 30 years ago. Extreme magnification is necessary to notice any surface wear, except a few creases. The cream-colored leather lining is quite clean and the clasp still closes tightly.

I couldn't find anything at all like this online, so it must be a rarity.

Looking like it's never been worn even once, this exotic vintage purple tunic would be a fabulous beach coverup -- or a top to wear with jeans and shorts, if you're a bit daring. It's lavished with fish in golden glitter, finished with gold and green beads tied into points at the knees and patterned with loads of sexy peek-a-boo slashes.

The "deconstructed" look makes me date this treasure to the late 1980s or early 1990s. Along with the two huge fish, a graceful undersea plant and the word "Bahamas" also appear in glitter. The tag (so crisp it's like new) reads: ARAWAK T Neely's of Nassau in the Bahamas 100% Cotton XLong. Total length is about 31 inches. Sleeves are raglan-style, finished in points with knots. The cotton knit is good and thick, with a rich, high-quality feel. This must have been expensive originally. Provenance is a New Mexico estate.

These fabulous vintage boots with stiletto heels are a lot more Vixen than Western. Besides the pizzazz of the 3.25-inch heels, they mix three different leathers in slightly different shades of brown: Reptile and suede trim the butter-soft smooth leather that slouches gracefully for a bit of "pirate" swagger.

Representing the height of style in the "Dallas" and "Dynasty" era, these beauties will be perfect with the 1980s revival fashions so trendy today (not to mention with your skinny jeans).

They've been so lightly worn that this is how they look without even getting a polish and brush-up! Linings are fully intact. They reached us, fittingly enough, from a Dallas estate and were no doubt extremely expensive, when new. Outer soles (leather, of course) are marked 5B and inner soles (also leather, of course) are tagged Wild Pair. Early examples of this fashion-forward brand have become highly collectible now. I've seen 1980s Wild Pair boots selling for close to $300 elsewhere online.

By Fenn Wright & Manson, one of England's leaders in special occasion fashions since the 1970s, this dreamy see-through jacket of coral organza combines a look of pure romance with all the proper details. Notice the shapely seaming, graceful lapels and double cuffs with shimmering faux-moonstone buttons in a slightly lighter shade of melon.

Sheer jackets of this type, tied on with enormous bows, were style essentials in Europe during the late 1980s and very early 1990s. (I'm not sure if they were also worn in the U.S., since I wasn't here then.) They're fabulous over slip dresses and a wonderful way of fluffing up just about any outfit for an evening event or a daytime gala like a wedding. In the latter case, they can give you decent cover for the ceremony, allowing you to wear something that might otherwise be a little too bare until the reception.

Size is marked small, but obviously this shape is highly adaptable. I'd say it could be worn by anyone from size 1-2 up to about a size 9-10. Condition of the wrap is fabulous -- it can't have been worn much -- and its provenance is an English estate. New party tops and wraps by FW&M sell in the $150 - $200 range, by the way.

Sometimes we can all use a little inspiration and this set of three audio cassettes supplies six hours' worth! (Each tape runs 120 minutes.) Produced by Nightingale-Conant Corporation, the masters of motivation, the series titles are "Career Success: Managing Your Way to the Top", "Raising Your Self-Esteem: Feeling Good About You" and "Healthy Ways to Deal with Stress". Copyright date is 1991. Evidently these are fairly rare, since my searches online turned up reference only to a few library copies. The cases show their age a bit, but are still serviceable, and the tapes are in great playable condition. Provenance is a New Mexico estate.

Want some gloves that will do lots more than keep your hands warm? How about these terrific vintage designs from the 1940s or early 1950s? They're loaded with Retro style!

The brown ones with the huge buttons and lavish seam detail look like suede, but are of suede-finished fabric. They also look like they've even been worn. Condition is absolutely amazing.

The second pair are of buttery soft black kidskin with cutwork wrist-bands of fawn kid, each secured with a black leather button. Just a few little scuffs are present, and one wrist has a teensy red dot on it. With a cleaning and polish, they'd be like new.

Both pairs are sized for a petite woman and came from the same Texas estate.

This dazzling strapless evening top lavished with large gold sequins is by designer Gina Bacconi, under her "Creazioni Originali" label. She now creates elegant party, evening and special occasion fashions for Shubette of London and her collection is sold in upscale shops throughout Europe.

Underneath the glitz, there's smocked gold fabic with a powerful stretch and beautiful lace loops are provided for hanging. The tag calls this a U.S. 8 (U.K. 10), but it's really more for a U.S. size 2 to 6. It's about 12 inches long and, unstretched, measures 22 inches at the bust and 20 inches at the waist. Stretched to the max, it will fit about a 34-35 inch bust and 29-30 inch waist.

The prior owner acquired it in London during the 1980s and wore it only once, so it's like new.

With metallics being so trendy today -- as well as 1980s-inspired fashions -- you couldn't own anything more stylish. It would be a fabulous way to dress up a suit.
