Crisp as new, this colorful vintage apron features a delightful pattern of tall windows filled with potted daisies, plus a wide red band at the bottom and a vine motif above. Length is a little more than 20 inches, plus a waistband nearly two inches wide.

It can't have been worn much, if at all, because the condition is immaculate. Probable dating would be 1940s and provenance is a Texas estate.

Here's a dream hanky, if you like them really feminine. Three tiers of ruffles frame the central panel of fine nearly-sheer coral linen: one of coral mesh, one of ivory mesh and, finally, ivory lace edging. The colors are luscious and a lot of work went into this!

Probably dating from the 1930s, the hanky reached us from a Texas estate and is in lovely condition. There are just two tiny spots (one extremely hard to notice) and no tears at all, which is surprising given the delicacy of the materials. Size is 11 inches square.

This darling vintage handkerchief is extremely unusual, in that it has a coin purse built right in! The hanky, itself, is of emerald green linen so finely woven that it's semi-sheer -- and, set into the center, there's a bright yellow, green and white tartan plaid pouch that zips open on one side with a green loop pull.

It's plenty big enough to hold keys and other small necessities, whenever you don't want to carry a bag -- making this perfect to tuck in your pocket when you're jogging, walking the dog, going to the beach or running quick errands.

The hanky measures about 11 inches square and its zip pouch is 4 inches by 4 inches. Provenance is a Texas estate and most likely dating would be 1930s or 1940s. Condition is fantastic. It can't have been used much, if at all.

This fancy vintage apron has to be at least 50 or 60 years old, but looks never worn. It's obviously been stored away carefully, because the fabric hasn't even thought about fading. And look at those elaborate ultra-feminine details: panels of yellow eyelet lace, plus appliqued flowers! It's 15 inches long, plus a 1 3/4-inch waistband, and provenance is a Texas estate.

If you're looking for a really charming vintage apron, either for kitchen use or to complete a 'perfect housewife' costume, you've found it now. Donna Reed, eat your heart out!

These pretty Chorus Line character shoes by Leo's were purchased for a play in 1985 and worn for only a few weeks of rehearsal and performance. How do I know so much about them? They've been languishing in my own closet for more than 20 years!

Leo's dance shoes are of excellent quality, so lots of life is left in these beauties. The screw-on Capezio "Tele Tone" taps are in great shape, too. With graceful 2 1/8-inch heels and Mary Jane straps, these shoes are a nice bargain for anyone who wears this size -- a rather generous 4.5 that should fit up to a 5. They retail for more than $65 now ($52.50 for the shoes plus at least $15 to add taps) and they're still in their original box, mildly scuffed from world travels but intact.

In the 1940s and 1950s, designs by the Forstmann Woolen Company were described as "the finest woolens in the world." Many of their coats were trimmed with mink and even ermine, and their top-of-the-line sweaters were, of course, cashmere. Both the company's luxurious merchandise and high-fashion magazine ads are eagerly collected today.

This Forstmann cashmere sweater is a particularly pretty and versatile one, featuring a lovely coral pink color that flatters any complexion and 11-inch cropped sleeves that make it comfortably wearable even under suit jackets and blazers (where longer sleeves bunch up).

In beautiful condition, the sweater can't have been worn much. The ribbed-knit neck, waistline and sleeve edges are as unstretched as new. It measures about 17 inches from shoulder to shoulder, 22 inches long and 38 at the bust, and it will stretch from 26 to 36 at the bottom. Thus, it should fit a small or medium.

Ultra-soft, not like today's cheap one- and two-ply cashmere, the sweater may even date from the 1940s but can't be later than the 1950s, since the New Jersey-based firm was acquired by J. P. Stevens and Co. in 1960. Its provenance is a Texas estate.

Having recently acquired loads of wonderful vintage and antique clothing from a collector who's downsizing, I got inspired to do a bit of the same. These two scarves have languished in my dresser since around 1980, which I paid at least $75 for each (on sale) at one of the best shops in town. Despite good intentions, I never got the knack of wearing squares, so it's unlikely I will.

The larger scarf here, measuring 26 inches in each direction with finely machined edges, is of an unusual and very complexion-flattering canteloupe hue, between coral and pink, and it has an all-over upraised pattern (impossible to photograph properly) of nubby same-color dots that feel luxurious. The fabric is a cotton so finely woven that you can see through it. This of course means it knots and drapes like a dream, with no ungraceful bulk.

The paisley scarf, 16.5 inches square, is of the same marvelous cotton. Even with its dark colors, it's transparent when you hold it to light. Colors are navy, red and ecru; the pattern is intricately detailed; and the edges are rolled and hand-hemmed.

Both these scarves are in like-new condition and would make marvelous gifts. I don't recall what their tags said; they were separate, not sewn-in, which is so nice. (That way, you don't have to risk ripping an edge, when you cut off the nuisances.)

We're presenting these as a duo, since both are sure to suit the taste of ladies who like their scarves sheer and extremely artistic. Each features as its background a drift of transparent cloud-gray organza that's light as a breeze. In one case, the reverse is tagged silk and we believe them both to be.

The older scarf, most likely dating from the 1950s or earlier, is decorated by hand with a lavish but subtly colored bouquet of violets and lilacs at each corner. Signed Hope, it measures 21.5 inches square, has a delicate machined edge and will look gorgeous over gray or any color that appears in the pattern, including various hues of purple, blue, rose and green.

The other, tagged silk, was produced in the Orient for the Margarita line's cocktail collection. With an exotic pattern of stylized chrysanthemums in dark gold, taupe and gray, it measures 22 inches square and has beautifully rolled edges hemmed by hand. Probable dating for this would be circa 1980, but it has a Late Deco/Retro look.

Both scarves are in lovely condition. On the older one, high magnification reveals a few itsy-bitsy specks which dry-cleaning should remove, but are hardly worth mentioning. Both reached us from the considerable collection of a vintage clothes hound who's downsizing. She wore them with the Anne Fogarty gray wool sheath dress we recently listed.

Measuring 32 inches square (plus two-inch fringe), each of these beautiful fringed scarves is almost as big as a shawl. In fact, when you fold one into a triangle, the length at the top becomes more than 50 inches -- plenty long enough to fasten around your shoulders or use as a sash. And, when you aren't wearing them, they'd make gorgeous table-toppers.

Besides their dramatic size, the colors of these are particularly nice: a black that goes with anything plus a lovely buttercup yellow that's extremely hard to find. The yellow has rosy undertones, so it's flattering to everyone.

The open-weave design helps coordinate outfits, because the color of your underlying garment peeks through. The same pattern appears on each scarf, and the fabric feels like light wool challis. However, enough of one tag remains to tell us they're really rayon, so you won't need to dry-clean.

Both are in very good condition, so they can't have been used much, and their provenance is a New Mexico estate. Dating would be early 1980s; I remember the style from that era, when they were often worn as sashes with long full skirts or tied wide at the neck to accentuate the broad-shouldered look.

By London designer Ritva Kariniemi for the Extravert line, this sizzlingly sexy skirt was purchased around 1990 in an upscale European shop. It's like new, because the prior owner never wore it. Of 91% cotton and 9% lycra, it holds every curve and has a powerful slimming effect from the draped crossover front and ruched sides. It finishes just above the knees and you can roll the top down if you want more exposure. Do be aware that the waist and hemline are the only loose points on this garment. Everywhere in between, it fits like a glove. The tag says "small" and it could be worn by anyone from size 0 to 4 -- maybe also 6.

This would look fantastic for clubbing, but just as great over a bikini on the beach. We've priced it at less than a third of its original cost.
