A delightful small gift, this Retro vintage fan would be a charming wall accent if framed. Against its background of intricate pink and white latticework, topped by a swirl-edged panel shading from cream to yellow, garden flowers and leaves are exquisitely rendered in pastel colors. All the colors remain remarkably unfaded. Printed in the panel at lower left is "Made in Taiwan." Its prior owner remembers receiving the fan in the early 1950s from an elderly aunt living in San Francisco, so it may be even older than that. It measures 10 1/2" tall and opens to slightly more than 18".
Reverse is plain white paper and the frame is lightweight, probably balsa wood. Sections of two sticks are missing, but this isn't visible in front and doesn't impair functionality. The only other flaws I find are three teensy pinholes, hard to notice, minor abrasion to one edge and the lack of one cover to the small metal fastener. This is missing on the front, but not on the back, so the one from the back could be moved to enhance appearance.
