This beautiful 22" necklace features ancient mummybeads and an udjat (protective amulet) in the form of a winged scarab. The antiquities are well over 2000 years old, dating circa 600 to 300 BCE. The mummy beads and amulet are of faience, powdered quartz which was a precursor of glass. To create this strand (which of course has a modern clasp), beads were selected for their beauty and symmetry and hand-strung along with a scarab amulet representing the god Kepri in flight. The scarab is 1" tall with a wingspan of 2 1/4". Its front retails very nice details and vestiges of original glaze. Its reverse is plain. Original certificate of authenticity issued by the antiquities dealer from whom this item was purchased will be furnished to the next owner.
