Victorian Print Signed by Hine 1858 MAGIC LANTERN
Free U.S. Priority Shipping
(& Gift Wrap if Desired)

English artist Henry George Hine was both a painter and an illustrator for magic lantern shows - working with the Royal Polytechnic Institution and top slide painters like H.L. Childe and W. R. Hill, who photographically reduced Hine's large watercolors to 7" x 6" slides, hand-coloured them and added special effects. They'd have been creating film animations today!

Our charming Hine print captures all the gaiety and wonder of Magic Lantern Night in a Mid-Victorian parlor. The faces of young and old wear such smiles of delight that this is sure to raise your spirits, every time you see it.

Apparently signed (in pink) both by Hine and M. Jackson, presumably the colorist, this treasure is in super condition and already nicely matted - to a size of about 13" x 11 1/4", with a visible image of about 9" x 7". There's printing on the reverse, but it doesn't show through. I expect it's taken from the "London Illustrated News," which published art meant to be framed and enjoyed. Provenance is an antiques shop in East Anglia. If interested in another scene of Victorian family festivity, please see our "Christmas Tree" print from the same source and era. They'd look wonderful, framed to match and hung together.

There's no charge for insured U.S. shipping and gift wrap is always free when desired. Please e-mail to confirm availability, order or request more photos. Thanks for looking!
