SOLD 

Charming cup and saucer from Limbach, Germany, 18th century. Creamy white glaze and iron-red decoration over the glaze of small children, putti, engaged in fishing and chatting. Mark on cup and saucer of crossed under-glaze blue L’s and a star. The Limbach porcelain manufacture in Thuringia, c 1772 – 1787 chose this mark as a competitive marketing tool, resembling the crossed swords of Meissen. A large papier maché and lacquered table snuff box made in Braunschweig (Brunswick), Germany. On the lid a portrait of an old man, a prophet. Early 19th century, probably Stockmann, unsigned. Diameter: "4 ½ / 11 cm, height: " 1 ½ / 4 cm. Condition: a chip to the inner rim of the box, as seen on photo.

A blue and white transfer printed plate with the Boy on a Buffalo pattern - one of the first Chinese patterns to be "translated" by the English potteries and first used by Spode c 1795, soon also by other potters. The specific border used for this pattern adapts itself well to the lobed shape of the rim. Around 1800, unmarked, possibly Spode. Diam: "8 ¾ / 22 cm. Condition: fine.
