A decorative black lacquer box by the Ryukyu Lacquer Ware Company, c 1920. The inside red, the knobbed lid with a carved lacquer banana plant - flowers, fruit and leaves - in colours. Stamped company mark. Diameter: "3 ¾ / 9,7 cm. Condition: small nick to the rim of box and lid (cf. picture).

A small plate, for the tea ceremony, depicting three beautiful leaves against a silver foliated background. Cloisonné enamel on copper by Ando, Japan, probably 1950’s. Diameter "4 ½ / 11,6 cm. Condition: fine.

Vase of convex shape, decoration of a bird and a butterfly among leaves and berry bushes. The motif is created by thin metal threads and the colored lacquer is filled in and polished. The brown lacquer background is carved as to resemble tree bark. This complicated cloisonné or Totai technique for decoration on porcelain was in use in Japan in the 1920’s and 30’s. Vase or brush pot, decorated with water lilies and herons in silver, green and red on a dark brown background. The motif is created by thin metal threads and the colored lacquer is filled in and polished. The brown lacquer background is carved as to resemble tree bark. This complicated cloisonné or Totai technique for decoration on porcelain was in use in Japan in the 1920’s and 30’s. Mark for Tashiro in Yokohama (ceased c 1937). Height: "8 ½ / 21,5 cm. Two Satsuma beakers of cylindrical shape, Kyoto ware. Both with stamped Ryozan-like mark in gold. Moriage decoration of birds and maple leaves in gilt and colours against a crackle-glaze pale beige background, c 1930. Height: "3 ½ /9,5 cm. Condition: minimal rim chip to one beaker.
