The enamelling is perfect on this necklace of stylized hearts and kisses designed by Margot, one of the master jewelers of the Mexican 20th century jewelry renaissance begun by William Spratling. The silver contrasting with the black enamel makes the necklace a standout in the chill of winter or with a summer tan. The necklace is sturdy and flexible and the links are strong. Marked by the designer with the silver content and her hallmark.

Mighty oaks from little acorns grow." This is right as rain. With rain and sunshine the strong potential of the acorn is likely to be fulfilled and the acorn will transcend into a grand Oak tree. The Victorians were well acquainted with the symbolism of nature. Acorns represent potential, fertility, strength from within and the power to reach as high as the grasp.
We are always happy to find a pair of bracelets which shows us that they were meaningful to their owner and cared for through so many years. Enlarge this image and the strength of the bracelets will shine. The silver is beautifully turned into an abundance of perfectly textured acorns. Thoughtful craftmanship is apparent. The clasps are more than functional. They are part of the decoration. In the period that these bracelets were made, English silver burst forth into a creative force in the jewelry business. Queen Victoria wore and gave silver jewelry to people she admired. These bracelets are extremely lovely when worn together. Separately, the detail and engraving have character a plenty and can be worn smartly, one on each wrist. When clasped together they form a stunning, edgy necklace in the style of a dog collar. Condition is perfect. Any variation in silver is due to light reflection. Each bracelet measures 7 1/4 in long and is 1 1/4 in high/

Rectangular links form this bracelet, each depicting a different symbolic scene. Shakudo was an art form of Japanese metal workers. Sometimes called mixed metals, this example is sterling silver, highlighted in gold, The images are in fine relief. They are crisp and readable. Shakudo was originally made to decorate sword handles. This traditional metal art was done in the Samurai era by esteemed artisans who crafted swords, weapons and armor. Examples can be seen at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. When the Samurai class was abolished in the late 19th century, Shakudo was made into decorative objects and jewelry. Though not frequent to the market, It is well known by collectors of this specific art form and by those who study antique jewelry . Excellent Condition

Vines encircle a central flower and reach outward to enhance your neckline with the sense of spring's pleasure. Green pastes, brilliantly faceted are a delicious color. Set with open backs, their vivid hue springs forward, while the white pastes set in the leaves soften the effect. The green stones are set in the round, in a kite form and channel cut around the center. The white pastes are round and worked into closed backed silver, as were the settings of gems in Victorian and Georgian jewelry. Excellent Condition

Magnificent and bold silver necklace is curvilinear throughout with typical Margot style. The central section can be interpreted as an abstract bow or butterfly. A leading authority on Mexican Silver believes this to be a piece created for a competition by Margot. The necklace changes form in unique ways. The centerpiece, or bow section, can be separated and worn as a large brooch. (Image 2) In Georgian and Victorian periods, such a piece was known as an stomacher and was fastened above the waist. This same centerpiece, if separated once again, becomes two fluid brooches to be worn as imagination sees them. (image 3) The entire necklace may be fitted for wear just below the neck or lower on the chest by adding or subtracting links provided. This is a one of a kind example of the silver art of Mexico in its time of high creativity. A memorandum by Penny Morrill about this piece is included with the sale.

Scenes from a lagoon are engraved on each link with the expression of Japanese art of the period. Each silver link is tightly constructed. The engravings drawn are reeds, stalks of bamboo and sprays of grass, herons, and doves, fans and sprays. It is clear that water is nearby. The bracelet is flexible and comfortable with a good secure double clasp.
Previous to 1854 the art of Japan was unknown. Commander Perry of the United States Navy signed a trade agreement with Japan opening the world
to the treasures of Japanese art not seen previously. The world of design, excited by a new art find, incorporated Japonaiserie in metal work and picturesque expression.
Our bracelet dates to c. 1870 England. It is in excellent condition.

It is infrequent that I find a Scottish Necklace. This one came as a surprise. The links are oblong and engraved with scrolling vines. Between the oblongs are circular links with images of a royal ship, a prancing lion and one in striking position, a soldier on guard, and a thistle. The collar's flexible construction makes it comfortable on the body. This is a striking and unusual collar in perfect condition.

During the 1860's through the 1880's, the silver jewelry industry in England was occupied with designing a variety of bracelets and necklaces of lush engraving. (See the silver bangles offered on our web site) The British public was surprised when Queen Victoria came out wearing silver after years of mourning, donning only black attire and black mourning jewelry. Silver then caught their eye, became an object of interest and a popular accessory. A line of jewelry was made that we can enjoy today. This necklace is engraved with a floral pattern on each link. The extension link, often lost over time, remains with the necklace and awaits a locket of your choice. It can also be added to the chain to lengthen the necklace. This necklace design is typical of the Victorian era. It is in perfect condition, With the extra extension the chain is a generous 18 3/4 inches and can be worn on a turtleneck sweater. Length is 17 in. if you wish to shorten it. Each link is 1/2 inch high.
