Mighty oaks from little acorns grow." This is right as rain. With rain and sunshine the strong potential of the acorn is likely to be fulfilled and the acorn will transcend into a grand Oak tree. The Victorians were well acquainted with the symbolism of nature. Acorns represent potential, fertility, strength from within and the power to reach as high as the grasp.
We are always happy to find a pair of bracelets which shows us that they were meaningful to their owner and cared for through so many years. Enlarge this image and the strength of the bracelets will shine. The silver is beautifully turned into an abundance of perfectly textured acorns. Thoughtful craftmanship is apparent. The clasps are more than functional. They are part of the decoration. In the period that these bracelets were made, English silver burst forth into a creative force in the jewelry business. Queen Victoria wore and gave silver jewelry to people she admired. These bracelets are extremely lovely when worn together. Separately, the detail and engraving have character a plenty and can be worn smartly, one on each wrist. When clasped together they form a stunning, edgy necklace in the style of a dog collar. Condition is perfect. Any variation in silver is due to light reflection. Each bracelet measures 7 1/4 in long and is 1 1/4 in high/

Rectangular links form this bracelet, each depicting a different symbolic scene. Shakudo was an art form of Japanese metal workers. Sometimes called mixed metals, this example is sterling silver, highlighted in gold, The images are in fine relief. They are crisp and readable. Shakudo was originally made to decorate sword handles. This traditional metal art was done in the Samurai era by esteemed artisans who crafted swords, weapons and armor. Examples can be seen at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. When the Samurai class was abolished in the late 19th century, Shakudo was made into decorative objects and jewelry. Though not frequent to the market, It is well known by collectors of this specific art form and by those who study antique jewelry . Excellent Condition

Scenes from a lagoon are engraved on each link with the expression of Japanese art of the period. Each silver link is tightly constructed. The engravings drawn are reeds, stalks of bamboo and sprays of grass, herons, and doves, fans and sprays. It is clear that water is nearby. The bracelet is flexible and comfortable with a good secure double clasp.
Previous to 1854 the art of Japan was unknown. Commander Perry of the United States Navy signed a trade agreement with Japan opening the world
to the treasures of Japanese art not seen previously. The world of design, excited by a new art find, incorporated Japonaiserie in metal work and picturesque expression.
Our bracelet dates to c. 1870 England. It is in excellent condition.

It is infrequent that I find a Scottish Necklace. This one came as a surprise. The links are oblong and engraved with scrolling vines. Between the oblongs are circular links with images of a royal ship, a prancing lion and one in striking position, a soldier on guard, and a thistle. The collar's flexible construction makes it comfortable on the body. This is a striking and unusual collar in perfect condition.

During the 1860's through the 1880's, the silver jewelry industry in England was occupied with designing a variety of bracelets and necklaces of lush engraving. (See the silver bangles offered on our web site) The British public was surprised when Queen Victoria came out wearing silver after years of mourning, donning only black attire and black mourning jewelry. Silver then caught their eye, became an object of interest and a popular accessory. A line of jewelry was made that we can enjoy today. This necklace is engraved with a floral pattern on each link. The extension link, often lost over time, remains with the necklace and awaits a locket of your choice. It can also be added to the chain to lengthen the necklace. This necklace design is typical of the Victorian era. It is in perfect condition, With the extra extension the chain is a generous 18 3/4 inches and can be worn on a turtleneck sweater. Length is 17 in. if you wish to shorten it. Each link is 1/2 inch high.

A mini mosaic of agate with silver accents designed like a piece of art. Notice the seamless joining of the agates while keeping in mind that all this work, the silver settings and engraving, the beautiful silver details and the stone cutting and polishing were done by hand 150 years ago. At center is a faceted citrine. A strong appearing brooch with beautiful design. All original and a fine example of Scottish jewelry of the 19th century. Condition is perfect.

Forget-me-nots and roses adorn this decorative, superb example of English silver. Every engraved spot shows a leaf or flower. Even the rose gold triangles on the center applied plaque are engraved with tiny for-get-me nots. The generous gold decoration pops out emphasizing the fine proportion of this cuff. You can imagine the engraver working on this bangle as if it were a painting, drawing a line of dots here and ridges there. The rims are finished with silver beading. Immaculate condition with no dents or scratches. Fits a medium wrist generously, say 6 to 6 3/4 inches in diameter.

There is no tarnish or blemish on the face of this brooch. The dark area is a light reflection from the flash. Worn with pride, this authentic Scottish Clan Badge from the mid 19th century, made of sterling silver and rock crystal, identified the clan to which the wearer belonged. It was placed below the shoulder to hold the tartan shawl in place. From the time that Scottish gentry wore burlap, a piece of jewelry was part of one's clan identification. Note the wonderful silver engraving of Scottish motifs; the thistle and its scrolling leaves. Made of heavy silver, the central stone is closed backed and foiled in the color of citrine. A bit of foiling has disintegrated over the hundred plus years. This natural process is to be expected and proves the age and authenticity. It makes the antique even more beautiful and is a testament to its history. Today, a brooch such as this is a strong statement at the shoulder or on a wool shawl draped over the shoulder. Clients have begun collections of Scottish jewelry with a brooch like this and gone on to appreciate the soul and workmanship and tradition. Scottish jewelry played a large role during the reign of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. This was a monarchy that steeped itself in Scottish culture and tradition. Victoria and Albert built Balmorral Castle in Scotland. They would frequent this home, and don traditional Scottish clothing of tartan with the appropriate shoes, belt and accessories.
This clan badge is in excellent condition. Measurements: 3 3/4 inches in diameter

This excellent example of a Niello chain, has its original endings intact, a Niello jump ring and clasp for attaching a poctket watch or fob. The chain is dual purpose. It is a long graduated watch chain or a necklace. Male or female can wear it. Niello was a jewelry makers' art in France and in Russia. My intuition tells me that this one English. Niello is a piece of gold or silver that has been incised and filled with a black alloy. The incisions made in this chain are geometric minute parallel lines on the silver links that alternate with gold links. A chain is formed to which gold or silver jewelry can be added. This chain is substantial and is an ornament by itself. Many, in fact most Niello chains have fine links without their the original endings. Measures 26 1/2 in. long. Each link is approx 1 in long The condition is perfect.
