Dramatic luscious gray striated agate is fantastic in combination with the three richly colored citrines in the center of this brooch. The loveknot form is symbolic of unending love. Set in sterling silver, this is frankly one of the most striking pieces of antique scottish jewelry that we own. We have not found a duplicate over the many years that we are in business. The brooch is original and in outstanding condition. It dates from 1860 - 1880. Gray agate, known as montrose agate, is rare in jewelry. The supply of the stone was small compared to other agate \varieties. The cairngorns or citrines in the center appear brighter in the photograph than they are. They are rich in color but softer in hue like fine rich honey.
These stones measure 5/8ths and 7/8th of an inch in length allowing optimal light refraction to bring out their best qualities. Gray agate is wearable with absolutely any color or fabric pattern. The brooch can be worn horizontally of vertically. Dress it up or dress it down. If you are a collector of scottish jewelry, this is a piece that will stir your passion. Measurements 2 7/16 in wide horizontally, 1 3/4 in. in height.

Suspended by a bow, brilliant foiled georgian pastes form a dove of peace that is set in a rounded silver backing, then fitted to be worn as a brooch or a pendant. The garnet beak carries a flower of green pastes as a love offering. The process of antique paste making was not considered the creation of faux stones, but the culmination of an art form that entailed as much creativity and skill as that employed in diamond workmanship. The process of foiling and enclosing the pastes so that they would endure the elements of pollution was not perfected until the 17th century. For this reason, supreme quality collectible antique paste had a relatively short reign, from the 1700's until 1865. This is an absolutely beautiful and heart warming example of a georgian jewel. It contains varied size pastes, and has the beauty of movement. The dove swings from the bow, thereby adding to the flickering light of the stones. Condition, very fine. Measurements 2 3/4 in. in length, wingspan, 1 3/4 in. English c.1770 - 1820.

Our cut steel earrings are silvery bright and glitter like gemstones. They turn heads as they swing gracefully with a woman's movement. Earrings of steel have unique properties. They glow in low light conditions when worn for a night on the town They are dressy enough for formal events; romantic when worn in candlelight, and yet, not too ornate to wear during the day. The art form has roots far back to the 16th century when objects were fashioned in this manner. Jewelry of cut steel, valuable from the start, came later, mostly in the late 18th and early 19th century. It's value corresponds to its rarity, beauty and the intensive work that was involved in their creation. Suggested reading is Anne Clifford "Cut Steel and Berlin Iron Jewelry" These earrings are English c. 1830. Measurements 1 3/4 in. in length; width 7/8 inch. Pristine condition.

Georgian garnets, the color of kings and painted by Titian, glow from these earrings of gold from England c.1820. The earrings are typical of the period. The garnets are flat topped and foiled. The earrings are graceful and light with lovely movement. The color is warm enough to emulate a candle's flame. These very ear jewels did, in fact, shine in candle glow. Amazing indeed is the fact that they did not loose their luster, their foiling, their perfect condition. This is a credit to the skill of the foiling technique. The settings for the stones were so expertly accomplished that they enclosed the foil to perfection, thereby keeping out the moisture, and pollutants. In original condition including original ear wires. Modern as now, yet old as the hills, georgian garnets bring to you the warmth and beauty we all crave. Measurements 2 1/4 inches long, under 3/4 inch wide.

Perfect for the bride or bridal party, this pair of 15kt to 18kt gold and white coral floral earrings is touched by the splash of garnet red. There is harmony in the appearance of these ear drops. No one material or color outshines the other. The gold with a rose tinge encircles the garnets, joins them in tone and forms a graceful ear wire and vine that presents the closed flower. White coral, though used in the Victorian period is not often seen today. It is whiter than ivory. It is not heavy or too light on the ear and adds a creative and personal touch for a day when something old anticipates something new. This is true of the wedding day as well as of any day in a life. Dating to c.1860, collectable earrings will always be jewelry to appreciate and will bring pleasure to the owner through the years. The condition is perfect. Measurements are Length 1 1/2 inch, Width under 1/2 inch. European origin, probably English.

Modern in design, almost art deco in character, this brilliant cut steel bracelet c.1820-1830 is in pristine condition and is richly textured. It is made incorporating both tiny and large steel bits according to the art sense of the designed. Cut steel objects were made way back in early 18th century England. They always combined intense labor with a high retail price. Early in Queen Victoria's reign, steel jewelry was admired and sought after. It continued to be highly valued as jewelry at a price that reflected the workmanship. The steel bits are hand faceted, hand polished and individually riveted to a backing created for the particular design of the object.. Candlelight caused the item to flicker and glow as if it were made of diamonds. Today, pieces are very rare, and extremely unique in perfect condition. This bracelet sparkles as if were just made. English measurements are 7 1/4 long. Almost an inch wide.

Thank Victorian England for beautiful silver such as this elegant, completely textured silver cuff bracelet accented with small gold flowers. The flowers seem to be appliqued on to the silver cuff. This is a bracelet to wear joyfully as often as one wishes, day or evening. We think of it as a crossover piece of jewelry. It appeals to both antique jewelry lovers as well as clients who want strong, good looking contemporary jewelry. English silver jewelry became extremely popular during the later half of the 19th century due to the interest of Queen Victoria. The queen gave gifts of silver to people she admired and wore it personally with her multitude of jewels. The silver industry, mostly in Birmingham expanded hugely to meet the increased popularity brought about by the sovereign as well as the fact that the gentry could now afford to own jewelry. This bracelet is an example of the fine silver produced during the period between 1860 and 1880. Collectors of antique jewelry seek and wear it regularly. Inner measurement is 6 3/4 in. Excellent condition.

Steel, berlin iron, or silesian wire woven as if fabric, is the material of this pair of rare fine mesh bracelets which connect and become a delicate and seductive necklace. The material is so very light that it does not encumber the wrist or neck. Imagine making fine steel or berlin ironl strands, lighter than a butterfly wing, and weaving it into mesh or cutting tiny steel nailheads and faceting them as if they were gemstones. Steel was a highly valued commodity for centuries. Men wore intricate faceted steel buckles on their shoes in the 18th century. Jewelry for women came later. The workmanship was done bit by bit completely by hand. Even Napolean no slouch he, gave a steel parure to his second wife. Marie Louise. Although much of the history of steel or iron design has been established, we cannot always identify whether the jewelry originated in France or England. We know this pair of bracelets dates to the early 19th century, c. 1810. Their condition is perfect. The clasps are tight. One bracelet is smaller than the other by a fraction. It has the same pattern but it is worked more closely. They are a pair, nonetheless and display beautifully, as the slight variation adds interest as bracelets or as a necklace. The material appears to be lace. Measurements: Bracelet #1 is 7 1/4 in end to end and 1 1/16 wide. Bracelet #2 is 7 1/16th end to end and the same width. A single bracelet can be chosen for the price of $3300.

Beautiful, unique and eye catching, this large brooch of jet has powerful presence and deep meaning. Although jet jewelry predated the passing of Prince Albert, it became a recognized accessory during Queen Victoria's extended mourning period. Albert was her much beloved partner. All classes of people wore jet in honor of and in sympathy
for their queen. It became admired and worn for its beauty This brooch is extraordinary in size and design. The sculptural quality is appealing to the touch and to the eye. It is a marvelous fashion accessory. The direct connection with an historic period in English history make it worthy of a collection. English c 1870. Condition is excellent.
