A grand Victorian brooch made c. 1860 with the technique in which objects using the shell of the Hawksbill Tortoise were delicately incised with gold and silver. The precious metal was brought to the very top of the object. The brooch is, therefore, absolutely smooth to the touch. Here is an example of a jewel made with a skill that is lost in time. This large brooch bears a marvelous presence. The striking, geometric, gold grid is centered with circles of silver and outlined in a gold circle. The outer border gives the brooch the festive sense of a sunflower. Condition is excellent

Whorls of jet undulate from back to front forming a dramatic brooch of Whitby jet with an unexpected modern presence in a Victorian design. Jet spheres set into central cut out circles make this 19th century creation look like a photo from the moon surface. The brooch is in perfect and original condition. It is a wearable piece of art.
The town of Whitby in England was a large producer of excellent jet jewelry. When Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert, died unexpectedly, she permitted only black to be worn in her court. The nation followed their queen's command out of respect for her loss and for the thrill of being fashionable. A brooch such as this one is fashion forward to this day. It measures an ample 3 inches in width, 2 inches high and 1 1/2 inches in depth.

Generous amounts of engraving covers the silver in this pair of Victorian Scottish agate earrings. Jasper and bloodstone get added cheer from oval amethyst and citrine stones that are rich in purple and honey. The shape of the original tops is repeated in the engraving at the lowest point of the earrings.
Scottish ear drops from this period are harder to come across than are bracelets or brooches. This is fact, be it that antique earrings of all kinds are more easily misplaced over so many years or less Scottish earrings were offered to the market to begin with. I believe both to be true. These earrings are original and in fine condition.
They are a wearable 2 1/4 in long, including the ear wire and 3/4 in wide at the widest point. Made in Scotland or England

Banded agate is one of nature's miracles. These stones were cut so that the white layer in the agate makes a stripe smack in the middle of each bead. They were then polished to a patent leather gloss, lively, reflective and smooth. When diligently inspected, a faint trace of chocolate brown can be detected under bright light. It lends depth and warmth to the beads. The strand is delicately graduated, the smallest agates measure .33mm and increase in size to 13.0 mm. The length of the
strand is 38 inches.

Once decorations on sword handles, the earrings shown are an example of the Japanese art form known as Shakudo. Gold, silver and other metals were mixed to form ornamental designs. The earring tops picture a gold bird of paradise and a spray of flowers. Below, on one earring, is a large golden blossom surrounded by deeply engraved leaves. The other earring is a ridged floral pod amidst the same large leaves. This traditional metal art was used in the Samurai era by esteemed artisans who crafted swords, weapons and armor. Examples can be seen at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. When the Samurai class was abolished in the late 19th century, Shakudo was made into decorative objects and jewelry. Though not frequent to the market, It is well known by collectors of this specific art form and by those who study antique jewelry . Width 3/8 in. Length 2 1/4"

Watch keys were used to wind pocket watches and lapel watches. Worn
attached to a watch chain along with a seal or fob, the watch chain was enhanced in character. They are worn in the same manner today and, in addition, are attached to a simple long or short gold link chain to make a necklace that is a conversation piece. They are a delightful element when added to a gold link bracelet. This sparkling collection is a mix of the Georgian and Victorian watch keys. They are cheerful and colorful. Citrines and amethyst stones provide the glitter. Repoussse work and engraving on the gold add texture. The condition of the keys is excellent.

Two old mine diamonds, just under a carat in weight each, sit separated by a small diamond while nestled in a surround of 1 pt stones of mixed old mine and rose diamond circles. An accurate description is that this ring is a pair of kissing clusters. All stones are in prong settings on an 18kt gold shank. This ring is substantial. These are diamonds for daytime or evening with the special difference of an antique setting and design. Not like the tennis bracelet that is contemporary and so familiar, yet still in step with current style. I realized that I looked at this ring on the quarter hour every hour when I wore it. I felt it to have beauty and allure. The size at present is size 6 or 16.5 mm. The ring is easy to size to your specifications by our jewelers or yours. It is in very good condition.
