| The oval, luminescent, strong blue moonstone has been carved to resemble the moon's surface. Clouds cross the smiling moon face. This moonstone is deeply set in high karat gold that has been hand made. The ring design and techniques used by the goldsmith are ancient. The gold is granulated and braided. The moonstone setting, 5/16ths of an inch deep is lined with a sliver of foil that was placed under the stone to refract the incoming light and to intensify the blue of the moonstone. The back of the setting is closed. Granulation was a skill used by Etruscans in which tiny balls of gold are made to adhere to a gold surface without the use of solder. The shank, in braided gold, is slightly flexible adding comfort for the wearer. Size 5. Perfect for the ring finger of a small hand or the pinky of a medium sized person. | |||||||||
