The bars that bear the weights are gold whereas the weights are platinum. The connecting links are 15kt gold and are original. They hold the cufflinks with just the right amount of flexibility so that they are comfortable and easy to insert into a shirt buttonhole. Cufflinks, a book written by Susan Jonas and Marilyn Nissenson, explains that cufflinks, as we now know them, first appeared in the end of the 18th century.
