| Weaving their path in and around a sterling silver setting, Scottish agates of distinctive character and color undulate like serpents around this antique brooch. The colors, bloodstone, Montrose grey, mustard, carnelian and a mix of olive and cream are set to show each other off to perfection. The agates are varied, yet muted just enough to create harmony. It is always startling to see a jewel more than a century old in terrific condition and seemingly modern in design. In this example of Scottish jewelry art, the jeweler created the shapes of the agates to form scallops at the brooches borders. Carving stone in this manner takes expertise. This piece is completely original. Scotland c. 1860 – 1880. Measurements: 2 1/4 in. vertical and horizontal. | ||
