This is an old and well done Japanese Satsuma box. The design has a wonderful contrast between the simplistic over glazed enamel water elements and the refined, highly detailed gold wheels. The inside is covered with a layer of gold. The box is not signed but we think it could have possibly come from the Makuzu Kozan studio because of its quality and uniqueness. Makuzu Kozan did some work in earthenware and came up with many wonderful designs. We also know that they were not all signed. The box ...click for details

This is an outstanding pair of Japanese Cloisonne vases from the master Namikawa Sosuke. Though unsigned, it can clearly be seen that the distinctive enamel work and style is indeed his work. These are transitional pieces made before the Sosuke workshop began signing their pieces. In 2005 one unsigned pair of 22 inch Namikawa Sosuke vases from the Sir Thomas Fermor-Hesketh estate, sold for a 102,000 GBP. I have included several images from signed Sosuke pieces that illustrate why the work on the ...click for details
