This is a very nice Japanese cloisonne plique-a-jour bowl. Unlike most other Japanese Plique-a-jour pieces this bowl has two large butterflies of different colors. The bowl displays perfectly but one of the feet has been glued on. It is hard to notice. See the last image. No other damage. The bowl measures 3 3/4 inches across and the hardwood stand shown in the images is included.

This is a very rare Japanese Cloisonne Vase. It is decorated with brilliant leaf shape designs. These are done in the Basse-taille style. It also has a semi moriage look because the enamel is thick and raised in different areas of the vase. We have never see a piece like this before. The rims are silver but there is no marks or stamps. It could be from before the silver stamp era or it could be vintage. The bottom is glazed. In perfect condition, it stands 5 inches tall and 5 inches wide.

The piece was made from a very good mold. The flowers, dragons and scene are quite detailed. We are not sure of the age but it is old. It could be from the 40’s or as early as the Meiji period. It measures 13 ¼ by 9 ¾ inches. There is wear to the finish.
