| This is a large antique water jug or ewer made by Fischer Budapest. This was a very ambitious effort by this company and may have been an exhibition piece. The jug is heavily decorated with an Oriental or Japanese look and might have been inspired by the gold medals being won in exhibitions by the Japanese in the late 1800's. The decorations have a nature theme that includes birds, rats, fish, leaves with an array of gold designs. What can not be seen well in the images are the gold highlights on the black ground. They cover the entire vase and are not worn as it appears in the images. Marked on the bottom in a some what smeared stamp FISCHER J BUDAPEST. The Fischer porcelain company was started in Hungry (1867) and was later purchased by Zsolnay. There is some crazing in the glaze. The piece is in excellent shape having very little wear and no restorations. Factory blemishes to the bottom rim can be seen in the images. Made in the late 19th century and stands 11 inches tall. | ||||||||||||
