| This is a superb and very rare Japanese Cloisonne Enamel Vase. Though unsigned, it is from the workshop of Namikawa, Shibata or Honda. It is much better than the images show. There is a quality and glow to the enamel that can be seen only the finest of pieces. It stands 6 ½" tall and is a very heavy piece. The enamel work is thick and the workmanship is impeccable. Intricate bands at the top shoulder area with flower mons, scrolling vines and butterflies. Deep rich high gloss blue wide body area with scrolling vines and flower heads. At the base, are unique shield type reserves again with very stylized butterflies and medallions of Ho birds. Mottled colors and grounds that are 3-D looking. The comb pattern at the base also has intricate wirework inside each little comb pattern. Top and bottom rims are thick with tiny wirework and flowers that encircle them. Metal base with a thick soft yellow/green counter enamel through out the entire inside of the vase. The piece is in excellent condition. | |||||||
