A rare figural wild boar Majolica cigar or tobacco holder, circa 1890.
This Majolica cigar or tobacco holder has a wild boar next to a tree trunk with a match stick holder on the side. The details on the boar are outstanding and this piece shows wonderful use of earth tones and natural colors. The mottled blue base measures 6 5/8" diameter. Holder measures 6" at the tallest part.
There is very fine, nearly invisible crazing, 2 tiny nicks on the tree trunk above the boar and about 4 very tiny nicks or flea bites on the top edge. It appears there is a section of the small branch missing on the foliage of the match stick holder that would have extended from the end of the small branch. There is some glaze separation on the bottom caused by shrinking during the firing process. Otherwise this fine piece of Majolica is in great condition.

The sides of the bowl have alternating recessed blue panels with roses and raised panels of soft yellow with 3 flowers at the bowl's edge. It is in excellent condition and very elegant with no chips, cracks or crazing and is incised with the number 26 on the bottom. Although this bowl is not signed with the R S Prussia mark we were told it is R S Prussia
