Superb 19th century folk art box, probably German, featuring carved fretwork and inscribed with the initials “TN” surrounded by two squirrels! The front depicts a heart flanked by griffins; the sides are decorated with oak leaves. Lined with green velvet. The remains of silver and gold wash lend the box a great patina! Very good condition; one squirrel is missing its ears. Measures 6 ½” by 4” by 4 ¼”.

Wonderful 19th century wood box with decoupage decoration, out of a northern New York estate. Box is spot decorated with charming figures: people, animals, flowers, even a little church! The front is inscribed “I A Briggs”. Some decorations are worn; one hinge has split the wood and needs a repair. Measures 11 1/2” by 8 1/4” by 3 1/8”.

Fabulous early 19th century dragee (sugar coated sweets) box with fabulous village landscape constructed of human hair. The scene is surrounded by gilt scroll and scallop motifs in gold. Box is made of heavy board or card, trimmed in gilt metal, topped with glass, and sided with green foil. Hairwork is in excellent condition. Box condition is good: wear to foil and foxing to bottom, all consistent with age. Measures 2 3/8” in diameter.

Very unusual 19th C burl snuff box with hidden hinge, featuring a nun with rosary beads and prayer book kneeling before a cross. The cross and altar look vaguely Russian or Baltic. The scene was enameled at one time, but it has mostly worn off. Lined with tortoise shell or horn. Fabulous design; good condition. Measures 2 3/8" by 1 1/4".

Lovely 19th century French porcelain box in wonderful condition, decorated with raised gilt and white decoration on a green background. Nice oval shape. Excellent condition; one spot of dirt on one side. Measures 2 1/2” long by 1 1/8” wide by 1 5/8” high.

Round Continental porcelain box, with transfer decoration on a convex lid depicting four people in a pastoral setting, the interior with floral and foliate transfer decoration on white ground. There are gilt highlights on the exterior salmon-colored body and rim. Condition is very good, with some surface scratches to the transfer decoration, but no chips or cracks. Marked in blue enamel with a Sevres-style mark. Measures 1 ¾” high by 2 ¼” in diameter.

Pretty burl snuff box commemorating the accession of Louis Phillipe to the French throne, which occurred in 1830. Center medallion features a profile of the king and the words: "L. Phillipe Roi Des (?) Francais/Dehais". Box is lined in tortoise shell or horn. Very good condition; central medallion is somewhat dented. Measures 1 3/4".
