Extremely fine Georgian mourning band, black enamel with gold lettering on 18k gold, with central hair compartment. This large foliate carved band commemorates the death of John Nelthorpe (“John Nelthorpe Esq OB 20 June 1824 AE 47”). The Nelthorpes have been an important family in North Lincolnshire, England, since the 17th century and there were several Johns born around this time in that area. Rare 17th-18th century Norwegian dragon ring, spiral constructed in gilt silver. Decorated with a dragon motif at the terminals and three flat dangling discs in the center, this ring comes out of a tradition which goes back to Medieval times. Rings like this gave the bearer a certain solidity and reputation (the more you had the richer you were!); this piece probably hails from the “Vestlandet” (or the west) in Norway. SOLD 

Scottish Luckenbooth, rock crystal set in silver, circa 1820. Luckenbooths were heart-shaped love token named after the Luckenbooths, or locked booths, where they were sold, in the Royal Mile near St. Giles Kirk in Edinburgh. The pins were exchanged by lovers at betrothal and later pinned to the first-born's shawl to protect it from evil spirits. Excellent original condition. Measures 1" by 7/8".

A beautifully painted miniature portrait in watercolor on ivory of a young gentleman, unsigned, by Thomas Day (1732-1807?). He is facing left and wearing a brown coat and pale orange waistcoat, a lace cravat, and a powdered wig en queue. Set in a chased and engraved brooch frame. Measures 1˝” high. Good condition.

Flemish School portrait miniature in oil on copper circa 1670. Subject is a gentleman, in a black doublet and wide, white collar with fabulous lace edging. Set in a gilded wood frame with a foliate molded border. Measures 2 1/8”. Good condition for age: small scratch in hair left of face; paper on reverse needs replacing.

Charming Victorian ring in 14k gold, set with four mine cut diamonds and a pretty central opal. Shoulder are beautifully fluted and engraved. Condition is very good, with evidence of sizing at the back of the band. Ring size 4 3/4.
