Beautiful 18th century miniature in watercolor on ivory, depicting a woman on shore holding a plaque inscribed with the letter “A”, as a ship sails away in the background. Rare 17th century posy ring in 18k gold. Exterior is carved in a modified scallop design. Interior is inscribed “I morne til then”. Posy rings were popular love rings dating from the Middle Ages. “Posy" was short for "poesy", or poetry, referring to the amorous inscription to the interior of the shank. By the 18th century, they were often used as wedding rings. Size 4 ¾.

Circular in shape, the pendant features a watercolor and hair on ivory scene with a mother and little son grieving at a three dimensional tomb. It features a pink-cheeked lady leaning on an anchor and gazing out at a ship at sea ? perhaps mourning a lover lost at sea, or merely a symbol (the anchor) of hope!
