Superb and unusual enameled three dimensional Austro-Hungarian pendant, in the form of an ostrich. Ostriches were a symbol of faith and were often depicted in heraldry. Dating from the late 19th to the turn of the century, Austro Hungarian jewelry is often called neo-Renaissance as it copies the ornate styles of that time. Beautiful large 19th century Shakudo ring set in silver. Shakudo refers to the metal alloy forming the base of the set, probably a small percentage of gold mixed with copper. This kind of metal work was employed by Japanese sword makers; when the samurai era ended in the late 1870’s, many sword makers began to make jewelry, often for the western market.
