Glorious, brilliantly colored enamel and openwork sterling brooch in the form of a peacock, circa 1910. The vivid colors and intense sheen are perfect for depicting the beautiful bird; his abdomen is a deep blue; the feathers are blue and red set against a green ground which changes to gold at the edges. The bird is flanked by stylized flames or leaves. Reverse is marked “Sterling” with a maker’s mark monogram, CH (it’s not similar to any Horner marks I’ve seen!).
