Charming English Provincial School portrait miniature in watercolor on ivory of a young woman, circa 1820. She wears a lace cap, a white gown and a black floral shawl and sits against a dark sky background. The painting is in good condition, with some dirt at the edges and two spots of water damage at two and three o’clock. Set in a red leather traveling case, which is a complete mess: split in half, glass loose, lining shattered. Measures 3 3/4” by 3”.

Super group of three portrait miniatures, framed as one, including a pair of watercolors on ivory by British artist Thomas H. Hull (fl.1775-1827). The portrait of the lady is remarkable: she’s dressed in Welsh costume with a cone-shaped black hat over her powdered locks; she wears a blue coat with silver piping, a white scarf and a fur boa. Portrait miniature in watercolor on ivory of a gentleman, circa 1795, signed “Lasal.p.” The gent has powdered and curled hair and wears a white cravat and dark blue coat. Beautiful hair reverse with a curl of light brown hair held together by a band of pearls and thread and laid over darker plaited hair. Set in gilt metal frame. Very good condition: ivory has shrunk and shifted a bit, leaving a gap around the top and right edges. Measures 3 1/8” by 2 1/2”.
