I rarely feature beaded deco purses, but this one completely enslaved me! The ultimate deco purse, worked in steel and glass beads, it is wonderful in every way. I have never before seen a mesh purse like this one, and probably never will again! Rare, in mint condition, and beautifully made, it is the epitome of deco mesh design. It is an elegant, slim dance purse of the finest bi-colored bronze and silver mesh. Long and thin, it folds over a silver bar with blue cabochon terminals, the top flap serving as the only compartment, meant to hold a coin or a ticket. Unusual 19th century miniature portrait in watercolor on ivory of a gentleman, signed Yanez. The sitter is a dramatic young man with black hair and beard, white shirt and what appears to be a plaid, fur-trimmed dressing gown. Possibly Continental or South American. Fabulous and delicate Georgian mourning ring, featuring a hair picture of the Tree of Life, surrounded by tiny seed pearls. The tree was symbolic of many things, including the love of Christ and everlasting life. In this design it is constructed of tiny pieces of hair, on a ivory-like base. Thin, twisted 9k gold shank. Delightful pair of late 18th century English portrait silhouettes, depicting a husband and wife, complete with identifying inscriptions. The silhouettes appear to have been drawn by different hands, evidenced by the dissimilar shape of the busts, the halo on the gent’s portrait, and the delicacy and detail of the lady’s bonnet and fichu. Elegant and unusual Whiting and Davis deco mesh purse, circa the 1920’s. Gorgeous abstract design in gold, green and silver. What makes this purse really interesting is the engraved scroll-motif frame – I’ve never seen one quite like it! Whiting and Davis mark on the interior of the frame. Exceptional Georgian sepia on ivory pendant, commemorating true love. A bird holds two hearts pierced with an arrow in its beak. Below the hearts are the initials “EB”, and below them a banner with the text “One Mind.” Navette shaped setting features beautiful bright work. Very good condition; artwork is excellent; there’s a small chip to the glass at 1 o’clock; the bail has been reinforced on the reverse. Measures 1 1/4” by 11/16”.
