An unusual wooden penwork floral picture, circa the late 18th or early 19th century. Women often made penwork boxes or pictures at home, using stylized floral motifs deriving from the Chinese. A piece of wood was varnished and then decorated with pen, then varnished again. This picture is lovely and rich in color and style.
