American portrait miniature in watercolor on ivory of a woman, circa the second quarter of the 19th century. She is wonderfully painted, from her sausage curls under a frilled lace cape to her lace fichu and black dress. Set in a gilt metal surround into a brown tooled leather traveling case. Painting is in excellent condition; binding at hinge of case has torn, leaving the two halves virtually detached. Leather is also quite scuffed. Delightful portrait miniature in watercolor on ivory of a young girl, by French artist Marie-Marguerite Françoise Jaser (1782-1873), later Rouchier. Her hair is powdered, with sausage curls at the base and lying on her shoulders. Beautiful original frame with bright work border. Very good condition, though there’s possible fading to her face, leaving it a bit blue. Well-painted 19th century Continental portrait miniature of a young gentleman in watercolor on ivory. The sitter has shoulder-length black hair and wear a dark green coat. Original gilt metal mount in turned wood frame. There’s some dust and possibly some mold under the glass; ivory has shrunk and shifted so that there’s a slight gap to the right edge, where there’s also a spot of paint loss. Measures 4” by 3 1/2”; sight size is 2 1/4” by 1 7/8”.

Mrs. Collins sits in profile; she wears a cap, red-brown dress, and white shawl. Her name is inscribed at the bottom; it has slipped below the frame line, almost out of sight. Set in a wood frame.
