| Lovely 18th century “hairwork” silk embroidered picture, depicting a man with a donkey and dog walking along a riverfront. There are two boats on the river and, on the far bank, two grand houses surrounded by formal parks. The picture is worked in black silks on an ivory silk faille ground. It’s called a “hairwork” because it resembles hair embroideries and may incorporate hair in its composition. Set in an oval gilt and wood frame measuring 6 ½” by 8 ¼”. Unglazed. Condition is good; some loose and missing threads from the river, and wear to the sky. | ||||||
