| A large miniature portrait of a gentleman in watercolor on ivory by William John Thomson, R.S.A. (Anglo-American 1771/3-1845). The gent is seated in a chair before a red curtain, and holds a book in his hand; he wears a black coat with a frilled white cravat and tied stock. His auburn hair waves and curls over his ears! The portrait is signed “Painted by W. J. Thompson/July 1818/Edinburgh”. Very good condition; one finger of the hand holding the book looks like the artist altered but did not finish it. Measures 14 ” by 11 1/4”; sight size is 8 3/8” by 6 3/8”. Set in a gilded wood frame. | |||||||
