| Delightful portrait miniature in watercolor on ivory of a young girl, by French artist Marie-Marguerite Françoise Jaser (1782-1873), later Rouchier. The sitter is identified as “Henriette le Brun, née Drolenvaux, grandetante (great aunt) de Nancy et Paul Duchat.” The girl wears a simple white dress – it is her pose, the tilt of her head, the wistful expression so skillfully drawn, that make this portrait so compelling. It is signed along the right edge “Mte. Jaser”. Jaser (her married name was Rouchier) studied with Aubry and Isabey. The portrait is set into a later wood frame with a gilt mount. Condition is very good; there’s a small spot of water damage and restoration above sitter's head and a tiny area of water damage above her shoulder. Measures 4 3/4” by 4 1/4”; sight size is 2 1/2” by 2”. | |||||||
