| A portrait miniature in watercolor on ivory of a charming lady, by the English miniaturist Anne Mee (1770/5-1851). Mee was a pupil of George Romney and Richard Cosway. By the time she was twenty, she was fully employed by the Prince of Wales. She was an expensive and successful miniaturist. It is said that she supported her family through her work, was quite beautiful (her self portrait is certainly lovely), and had a jealous husband who wouldn't let her paint male subjects. This is a head and shoulders portrait; the lovely sitter wears a gold necklace with interesting floral pendant. Her dark curls cluster around her face. The portrait is in excellent condition. The black wood frame has a few scuffs. Measures 4 1/2" by 3 3/4"; sight size is 2" by 1 1/2". | |||||||
