| Rare pair of 18th century rings, mourning the deaths of a father and son. Both were John Cobdens; the son died first in 1778 at the age of 11. His ring features a sepia and hair on ivory picture depicting an urn and a willow tree. The white enamel band, symbolizing a youth or unmarried person, is inscribed “John Cobden ob 11 Sep 1778 ae 11.” The father’s ring features a glazed compartment of plaited brown hair, the band enameled in black and inscribed “John Cobden ob 6 Feb 1780 ae 41.” Both are in very good condition, with a little wear to the enameled bands and a little dirt under the glass. Father’s ring is size 9 1/2; son’s is size 10 1/2. | ||||||||||||
