| Early 19th century dragee box with fabulous reverse painted lid featuring pretty woman holding a large playing card of the King of Hearts! The scene is surrounded by scroll and scallop motifs in gold. Best of all, at her feet is a rebus; my lack of French prevents me from deciphering it, but it should show well in the image! Box is made of heavy board or card, trimmed in gilt metal and topped with glass. Condition is good; rim is a bit loose, minor wear to white paint, gilt metal, and card, all consistent with age. Measures 2 ½. | ||||||
